Weekend Cook and Tell: Catastrophic Cupboard Cleanup
Welcome to the Weekend Cook and Tell. Every Wednesday we read our way through the food sections of various national newspapers to create a weekend cooking project. We hope you will cook along with us and share your experiences, recipes, and photos here.
This week we are tackling a topic that is a little different than our usual Weekend Cook and Tells. Our inspiration comes from China Millman of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Millman writes that her kitchen is by far the most organized room in her house aside from her dreaded spice drawer. It's a cluttered mess of bags and jars of spices and herbs with too many doubles and even triples of the same spice.
This scary spice drawer is something that is all too familiar to me, and extends way beyond spices. I do a lot of cooking which means that my cupboards are full to the point of near bursting with all manners of cans, jars, bottles, bags, and Tupperware containers. While I cannot bear to part with any of my pantry items, it would be nice if I could find a way to organize them.
In her article, Millman offers many helpful links for kitchen organization including this beautiful spice holder from The Traveler's Lunch Box and a hanging spice rack from Old Sweet Song.
For this week's challenge we want to hear all about your kitchen organization methods. Do you keep a spreadsheet of all of the ingredients that you have on hand or have a particularly unique way of keeping your spices? Please feel free to share photos of your organized pantries and shelves to act as a motivator for all of us out there whose cupboards are, let's just say less than photogenic.
Show us your photos on Photograzing (make sure to include "Cook and Tell" in your submission title) and tell us about your recipes here! If you'd like to blog the experience, please leave a link in the comments below. We'll post a round-up of your photos and recipes next Wednesday with all of your kitchen organization ideas.
