I grew up hating this dish as a child, associating it with funerals of relatives I barely knew. I'd pick the meat out of the gross limp cabbage, cover it with ketchup and choke it down. I never imagined I'd ever willingly make it on my own.
Jane Brody features an easy "Unstuffed Cabbage" recipe in her Good Food cookbook that I like and have been making, but I'd like to experiment with other ways to make this dish. A friend does a mushroom & rice version with a kind of gravy sauce. Does anyone have any other methods or combinations that are especially good?
