Cooking and Baking

I need an all-round pan

Having quite recently relocated to USA and being a graduate student I am in need of a cheap but versatile pan to start off my new kitchen. I am looking for something that I can use for basically all types of cooking, i.e. frying eggs, browning meat, making pasta sauces etc. Regarding material and size I am undecided, but I usually cook large batches of food, so it ought to be rather big. Also, it should stand some heat (i.e. oven-proof). I have been looking a bit on this one, but I can't get a feel for whether it has a thick bottom, which is a preference.

So, my question to the SE community is what pan you can recommend me. All suggestions are appreciated.
