Cooking For The Tastebud Impaired

My 86 year old mother, who formerly loved to eat ,is gradually loosing her sense of taste due to an illness. She still loves her sweet JD old fashionds! She seems to have some taste of sweet and salty left. Hits this weekend were boca negra, Brown Cow yogurts, Lays Baked Ranch Potato Chips, and some boiled shrimp with a really strong creole remoulade. I am really bombing out in the meat and veggie department. Any and all suggestions are welcome.( I know about Ensure but she is not ready to go there yet).
