The original Theta Burger was created by the Split-T in Oklahoma City. I was born and grew up in OKC and remember when the Split-T opened as I was in Jr. High and enjoyed eating there. The Split-T came up with the name when they discovered that the college students who asked for the #1 with mayo and pickles everytime they came in were Thetas at OU. Cheese was not part of the original burger. Although the Split-T is no more, the original is still available at Johnnie's Charcoal Broiler. when I'm in OKC (now live in TX), I like to buy the hickory smoked sauce so I can create my own Theta Burger at home. Admittedly, mine will never be as good as Johnnie's, but it brings back memories of growing up in OKC.
