Where's the best place to buy prepared food?
Last night in New York tomorrow and I'm having some friends over for dinner in a rented apartment. Too much to do for serious cooking so where would you recommend for good prepared food and what dishes in particular? Upper West Side preferably but willing to travel!

I'm partial to Westside Market--they have a huge selection of prepared foods and what I've tried from there (so far) has been pretty good.

Zabars or Fairway are excellent and very reliable. Whole Paycheck also has great food but the name says it all....

Thanks so much. I've ended up at Zabar's (nearest) but will remember to try Westside and Fairway next trip.
