Purslane

I know it's not currently in season, but has anyone eaten or make salad with purslane in it?

If so, share your observations please. It's been on my list of foods yet to try.

A couple weeks ago when I was clipping the last of the squash from our community garden, I got to talking with a couple of fellow gardeners. I pointed out some clumps of purslane and lamb's quarter, but they had been stepped on and weren't suitable for much more than the compost pile. I got home, and this was in my inbox.

I have no idea. It just happens like magic when I cut and paste.

BTW, does purslane grow wild by you? It does here.

It does grow wild here. Including in my potted plants outdoors.
I've always wussed out, but next season I'm going to give it a try.

My favorite salad is fattoush, which uses purslane and sumac. I haven't made it myself, however.

Have you had fattoush before?

I like it as a salad with a lemony-anchovy dressing and a piece of crusty bread. It's a fine, fine weed!
