Menupages.com fixed?

Posted by sanhedrin, November 4, 2009

No, it wasn't broken. Wondering if anyone else out there has written a negative review only to have it never show up. Seems the folks at menupages might be "fixing" review pages, especially for new restaurants.

I recently wrote a review for a new place in my neighborhood - Sushi UO, for anyone who cares - didn't much care for it, figured I'd share my thoughts on menupages, as I often do. It was the first review for UO and, go figure, it didn't show up for days. Like someone was mulling over approving a negative review or not. Eventually it did appear, three days after I wrote it.

But then today - curious to see what other people thought of the place, I checked back. There were a couple of other negative reviews, short and sweet, nothing as detailed as the one I'd written - and, of course, there were the usual bunch of instant five-star shill reviews that seem to accompany any new restaurant. But mine had curiously disappeared. Too negative? Too mean? Strange, both how long it took to appear and how it went bye-bye.

Maybe menupages needs to put up a notice - "Warning: Averaged ratings are based on a cherry-picked selection of reviews ensuring the majority are positive so that no restaurants, especially new hip ones that might recognize our staff, will get pissed at us."
