Mashed Potatoes made the day before?

Any info on making the mashed potatoes the day before and reheating in the microwave? I read somewhere ( Bon Appetit? Martha Stewart? ) that you could make the mashed potatoes the day before Thanksgiving, and reheat in 3 to 4 minute pulses in the microwave.
Does anyone have any experience with this? I am thinking potatoes mashed with a masher might work better than riced potatoes (fear of turning "gluey")
Please Advise!
