Kissin' don't last, Cooking do!------Dinner November 5th?

Tonight I will be trying to make some chicken tikka masala (cheating with a Whole Foods spice packet) served on rice with a side of the Curried Red Lentils with Coconut Milk from SE and raw green beans and carrots. Also have some frozen naan from TJ's. No dessert -my people still have Halloween candy.

24 Comments:

liver/bacon/onions, mashed potatoes & spinach. After the comments on talk yesterday I just had to pick up some liver this morning ...

teriaki pork loin, jasmine rice, steemed broccoli.....with plenty of Siracha

Ribs, mashed potatoes. Maybe a salad to assuage the guilt. :)

Chicken Piccata with jasmine rice, green salad with feta, pinenuts and dried cranberries and some nice crusty rolls. And thanks to all those who gave me delicious soup ideas...I have stock going in the slow cooker and am going to be having some of those soups for breakfast and lunch for the next week!

Going Indian tonight: some sort of red lentil and chickpea stew, basmati rice, curried cabbage, turkey breast

I put a roast in the crockpot with some big carrots (not baby ones), b sized red potatoes and an onion quartered. Some chicken stock (because there was an open carton of it in the fridge needing to be used up) for moisture and lots of herbs.
Hopefully 12 hours on low will do the trick.
Planning to whip up some cornbread to eat with it. And Halloween candy for dessert.

@PoorOldMama- TJ's naan is the best!

acorn squash soup (from a recipe from this here site) with sauteed kale. Great under-the-weather food

Shredded Mexican beef burritos, black beans and cumin rice, shredded cabbage-lime-cilantro-jalapeno-chopped tomato salad and maybe, just maybe some tomatillo sauce and margaritas.

That's an awful lot of food for two people. The kids are working tonight.

my first lasagna...hope it goes well

Chicken cacciatore over rice, with sauteed zucchini on the side. I'm actually not cooking; last time we visited my mom in New York, she cooked chicken cacciatore and gave us some to bring home. I froze it, and defrosted it to eat tonight. Can't wait for the taste of home!

@italiagirl--there's nothing like a taste of home, is there. I have a feeling that as my boys go off to college and beyond, there will be some special requests. My younger one likes to cook, so he'll be asking for the recipes to make for himself.

I am gonna do those potato latkes and home made applesauce and roasted brussel sprouts and roasted red pepper and tomato soup......I am also baking a sweet potato so I can take that to work with me tomorrow , will eat with the leftover tomato/red pepper soup...

Having linguine and tomato sauce with carrots, asparagus, green and red bell peppers, celery, zucchini, yellow squash, cherry tomatoes, ground beef, ground Italian sausage, and basil. Steamed broccoli and cauliflower.

Had to find a way to get rid of all the basil we had -- bought 2 lb for $3.99. Made pesto with most of it, ate sandwiches with quite a bit, and we are adding over a cup to the sauce tonight.

my Mr. is working late, so we will be having eggs, sausage and fried potatos with onions.

My commute was awful tonight--the buses were slow in coming, and the one I finally caught moved...so...slowly. This was mollified by coming home to braised whole croakers with shallots and grape tomatoes over spaghetti.

Reality of dinner--No red lentils ANYWHERE in my suburban town! Still made tikka masala but picked up two premade ditties for the sides--Rajma masala (red kidney bean curry) and dal bukhara (black lentil curry) each to see if the people liked them and would make them-for real- again. Big success except for spilling rice out of the bowl---silly red wine at a reception before dinner!!!

Oyako-don (chicken and egg rice bowl- oyako means parent(s) & child(ren)). I know. such a cruel name.

TJ's chicken gyoza, edamame, and brown rice with a homemade soy sauce/sesame oil/rice vinegar dipping mixture. I was craving tasty, warm, Asian comfort food :)

Mmm oyakodon! I must make that this weekend! :)

Sorry, I have to disagree. Kissin' seems to have lasted (for my friends) long past when my cookin' do.

We had long-cooked pork with apples and mushrooms in a wine sauce. I made whipped sweet potatoes with maple syrup for the side. Also snagged a small 3 cheese foccaccia from Whole Foods which got reheated, served, and scarfed up. Cooler weather dictates stewy, soupy food and that suits me just fine. When I lived in FL, I used to pine for "a place where stew makes sense." Happy to say I now live in ATL and we have chilly Autumn weather! YAY!

@Cassaendra
I didn't have mitsuba though! that would've made it even better :-)
maybe I have to grow them...

Confession-
Got home late and didn't feel like cooking. Ordered a take and bake pizza.
Got home. Discovered oven isn't working. Returned to take and bake and asked them to fire it in there oven.
We all got a chuckle out of it (pizza guy, customers and me..well, not really me.)

Called service repair man this morning......phhhttt!
