Favorite Bagel Fillings/Toppings?

I can't eat cream cheese any longer because of a food allergy, so I've been using herbed goat cheese. I'm not missing the cream cheese one bit.

It also makes a great sandwich with a little bit of roasted red pepper and sliced turkey or corned beef.

Smoked salmon and cream cheese with capers and onions! Classic but so decadent!

@WickedGoodDiner - I have a minor obsession goat cheese!

Butter, or creamy peanut butter and grape jelly.

Once in a while, I will make a sandwich of Boar's Head ham - sliced thinly - some American or blended cheeses, and a sprinkle of garlic & herb Mrs. Dash....warmed in the microwave so that the cheese is melted.

peanut butter and banana
plain or berry flavoured cream cheese
I also like my bagels naked

A perfect fresh bagel needs no accompaniments. Otherwise, peanut butter is good.

I lightly toast them, heavily smear them with cream cheese and garnish it with a bit of strawberry jam or jelly if it's time for breakfast.

The daughter-in-law I live with doesn't eat bagels for breakfast. Her very favorite sandwich is an untoasted bagel smeared with liver sausage on the bottom and cream cheese on the top. Until I met her, I didn't think anyone younger than 40 knew what liver sausage is.

I only buy Sara Lee or Lender's white or wheat bagels. I don't often get any other kind because I only like onion, poppyseed and the other bagel flavors when they're fresh from an old-fashioned bakery, which is non-existent in my area. And I've tried other brands and also bagels from grocery store bakeries, but I've found them to be hard and tough and bleccch. So two or three times a year, I make them. I am so envious of anyone who is able to get their hands on good bagels all the time.

salmon, cream cheese and i like to add thinly sliced tomato.

as for bagel type if im just eating it, i prefer the poppy seeds.

Naked, or with a touch of butter while still warm.

I like them with lashings of good butter right out of the toaster.

I also like flaked smoked haddock, finely chopped roasted red pepper and onion, all mixed with creme fraische and spread on to a toasted bagel. Or smoked salmon, sauteed spinach, thick-cut bacon and a poached egg.

I also like to play the savoury/sweet game...mature cheddar melted onto a cinnamon and raisin bagel, or raspberry jam on sourdough.

They're also great for proper crab cakes (by which I mean crab, an egg, breadcrumbs, a bit of pepper and nothing else). But not a sandwich, just on a toasted and buttered half. You get the crusty, yeasty taste of the bagel with the sweet-yet-savoury taste of the crab. It makes for a great starter.

Everything bagel with plain cream cheese, fresh from my oven. I do a batch about once a month.

I love crunchy peanut butter on a sesame seed bagel, just butter on a cinnamon raisin, and butter and jam on a plain one. If they're totally fresh though, I am more than happy just ripping into them naked. The bagel I mean. I remain fully clothed...

I like plain or egg best, but I won't turn down onion or sesame. If they aren't fresh, then they should be revived in the toaster. I like cream cheese on them. Smoked salmon is good, too (with lots of fresh, cracked black pepper and a squeeze of lemon...maybe some chives...capers...). However, I recently smoked some tuna steaks over cherry wood and we had leftovers that were just brilliant with cream cheese and bagels, so that might be the winner.

Smoked salmon with cream cheese and red onion. Delicious!

Cream cheese and tomato! Add bacon to make is a well-balanced meal!

*sighs* Literally just got back from trying to get a bagel from the corner store... out already.

Usually I'm an everything-with-low-fat-cream-cheese kind of girl, but if I've got the money or it's readily available - love to add lox!! Some places do a great smoked salmon spread that's similar (and usually cheaper)

lox, cream cheese, and capers....dang dong. now i'm all hungry.

Loadsa Breton butter and caramelised onions.

i like lox cream cheese and tomato from the bagel shop, regular cream cheese, whitefish salad, onion and avocado at home on the weekends, and for breakfast, butter and sharp cheddar with a little bit of jam. yum.

Definitely a whole grain, or seedy-style bagel with a little cream cheese, thin slices of tomato and smoked salmon! I know, it's a common favorite, but for a good reason!

My favorite is smoked salmon, bacon, lettuce, tomato with mayonnaise...Mmmmm...

I love bagels, if you can't have cream cheese try ricotta with scallions a tomato slice and a sloce of muenster melted in the toaster oven.

Bagel sandwiches are great- turkey and avocado

peanut butter and banana with a drizzle of honey

either lox red onion and cream cheese
tuna fish
vegetable or scallion cream cheese
butter and cream cheese mixed together...

I'm in the lightly toasted, smoked salmon, cream cheese, capers and red onion camp. Has to be served open faced or I'll complain. Oh, and if I'm assembling them at home the cream cheese has to be Philly.

depends on the mood, my top three are

black russian bagel untoasted with butter
everything bagel toasted with cream cheese and tomato
sesame bagel toasted with peanut butter.

Lox or gravlax with cream cheese and red onion is my preferred topping, but I love hummus too.

If I'm feeling fancy, an everything bagel with pesto mixed with cream cheese (topped with tomato slices when they are in season).

For a lazy day, a toasted cinnamon raisin bagel with cream cheese makes me almost unreasonably happy.

Good old lox and cream cheese with tomato. Typical Sunday morning :)
