Cooking a Rooster

So, I went on my preliminary foraging run to the grocery store for the things that I could (or need to) buy early. I was ogling the poultry section, picking up some turkey necks for my stock, and I saw that they were selling roosters.

Hmmmm...this is new. I've never seen a rooster at the grocery store, and I suspect this is something that's just going to be there for Thanksgiving. I was tempted to buy one, just because. But I didn't.

I'll probably be going back to that same store tomorrow and/or Tuesday for the rest of what I need, and the roosters will probably still be available.

So is rooster going to be any different than regular old chicken? Is it worth a purchase, just to find out?
