Where to eat in Ann Arbor, MI?
Hi, all. Can anyone recommend a good Italian restaurant in Ann Arbor, MI? My husband and I will be going to a concert a the Hill Auditorium, so we wanted to find someplace close to that. Does anyone know of a place that makes their own pasta? I appreciate your suggestions :-)

Paesano Restaurant and Wine Bar is the best Italian food in Ann Arbor, and my favorite restaurant. It's at 3411 Washtenaw Ave, about 3.5 miles from Hill Auditorium (it's a direct route down Washtenaw to the University, though). Their food is worth the trip--it's amazing. I've never been disappointed, and have always been supremely impressed. I do believe they make their own pasta. It's just a wonderful place, and I can't recommend it highly enough. http://www.paesanosannarbor.com/

I recommend either Gratzi or Palio. They're both part of Mainstreet Ventures which is a favorite chain in both the Ann Arbor and Toledo areas. I've eaten at most of their restaurants in both these areas and keep going back (as friends and family do) simply because the food is quite good.

Have not been to Palio or Paesano so I can't compare, but I have been to Gratzi and I agree that it is very good.
Have fun!

I've never been within 1,000 miles of Ann Arbor, but if I were going, I would head for Crazy Jim's Blimpie Burger:

If the co-ed at the end of the piece could down 21 hamburgers in one sitting, I've got to eat at least one.
Sorry, I realize that this may be of no help to you, since they don't make pasta, only good 'ol burgers, fries, and rings, apparently.

I unfortunately don't think there's any great Italian food around here. Palio seriously over-salts and Gratzi isn't what it used to be.
@salpico - Blimpie's is the best

What blubyrd said. Grazi is way over-priced and fussy(most Mainstreet Ventures things are). I'd stick with Palio, which is also a MSV thing, but toned down. If you must have Italian food, it will suffice, won't break the bank, and is walking distance to Hill Auditorium.

I'm not sure about a pasta hot spot but if you have extra time, you should definitely make a stop at Zingerman's! They have awesome sandwiches and a whole store of yummy ingredients you can take home!

Cafe Zola on Washington. I know it's not strictly Italian, but their menu is basically Mediterranean, with a heavy Italian tilt. Honestly, it's my favorite place in town.

Thanks to everyone for the great suggestions! We tried Paesano and it was delicious. We also stopped by Zingerman's for lunch the next day. Wow...I was in heaven!!! It is definitely worth the price.
