What Did You Eat Today?

I really love these dinner posts where everyone reveals what's going on their kitchens, but I'd actually like to take it a step further.

When ever I talk to a friend in person or on the phone, I always ask them what they've eaten. I do it to my boyfriend all the time and he's gotten into the habit of going into great detail, because he knows "a sandwich" reply won't suffice. I love hearing about what people eat throughout the day, mostly because it's so interesting to me. It give me ideas about what I can make and it makes me understand that "boring" food in my house is actually kind of exotic to others and vice versa. So, what did you guys eat today?

I like your idea - because I totally agree. It's fun to hear what people eat, especially for new ideas. It's so easy to make different things and still buy the same kind of foods at the grocery store. My meals are usually a little more exciting, but I sadly had leftovers for lunch from this recipe: http://www.pillsbury.com/Recipes/ShowRecipe.aspx?rid=13820&WT.dcsvid=NDc3MDk2OTM1MQS2&rvrin=E4C57D7C-0916-4223-85C4-6212D3475EF2&WT.mc_id=Newsletter_PB_09_08_2009&rvrin=E4C57D7C-0916-4223-85C4-6212D3475EF2

For dinner we had peanut butter and jelly french toast. It's delish. I wasn't in the mood to make anything special because I planned to make cookies later, just for fun. But it goes perfect with a tall glass of milk! yummo!

I just had toast for breakfast, but a co-worker gave me a huge gourmet caramel apple before noon. I made the mistake of slicing off a taste and then I couldn't quit nibbling on it all day! It was a pitiful site. I ate the whole damn thing. I believe the family opted for cold cereal and canned soup for dinner. I'm not sure, as I couldn't bring myself to the table.

Breakfast - One hardboiled egg diced and split between two buttered pieces of whole wheat toast.

Lunch - Leftover pear tatin with vanilla whipped cream, homemade baked beans with ham. (In that order)

Dinner - Herb rubbed slow roasted back ribs with a rather dull spring mix salad.

Snack - I stole a couple from the secret stash of cookies in the freezer.

Breakfast about 11--Trader Joe's Pita chips -new find --so good

Lunch-Black bean soup made last night with chips crunched in.

Dinner-dining hall lasagna and it was really hot so it was actually pretty tasty. Peas, salad with fairly good lettuce, cottage cheese and nasty butt orange cake with orange frosting. I don't know what I was thinking. I do love some frosting...but not orange frosting.

Oh and a few mini snicker's and milky ways. But I do wish I had one of those caramel apples yankeesgal!!!

Oh and a few brownies that I made earlier in the day. And yes I am a very poor eater!!

@Lexophile: One of the greatest things about being an adult is that you can eat your food in whatever order you want, even if it means eating dessert for lunch.

oh, i guess it was today. slice of double-dough pizza with sausage and mushrooms and a blueberry ice cream cone at 1am this morning.

My first breakfast was a banana ( I wake up at 4:30am for crew practice)
My coach made us chocolate chip cookies, so I ate 3 of those
Second breakfast was a bowl of cream of wheat with peanut butter and raisins
Lunch was veggie chili, bread roll, crackers, and yogurt parfait (with blueberries and granola)
Dinner was an apple... and apple pie, and a bunch of other snacks
Sometimes, it's hard to eat "normally" and healthily in college ):

Have you heard about the pantry challenge? For the next two weeks, cook meals only from ingredients you have on hand. No grocery store shopping. Benefits include discovering forgotten or hidden ingredients, forced creativity and a cleaner pantry. I'm thinking about it...

For breakfast, I ate a bowl of kitsune udon with a heap of spinach. I normally add 1/2 - 2/3 soup base and double the water so it's not too salty.

For lunch, my husband packed leftovers from my TV dinner -- sardines in cayenne pepper tomato sauce with nori and sesame seeds and pasta salad with roasted red peppers, olives, artichokes, zucchini, yellow squash mixed with olive oil, vinegar, salt, pepper, and oregano.

For dinner, we split an order of marinated grilled pork summer rolls. I ate bun rieu (with fixings -- lettuce, bean sprouts, Thai basil, jalapeno peppers, and lime) and he had pho.

breakfast - toasted english toasting bread with butter AND peanut butter

lunch - hot pastrami on homemade rye w/ melted swiss and spicy brown mustard on the side.... oh, and a deli pickle

dinner - couple michelob ultras, bowl of miso soup, and 6 different types of sushi rolls (shiki sushi in durham, nc has buy-one-get-one 7 days a week)

a good day. definitely a good day. :)

Brunch--a small scoop of large curd cottage cheese and a small caesar salad and a couple of diet pepsi's. (I generally don't like to eat until 4 or 5 hours after I've been up)
Mid afternoon snack--1/2 turkey sandwich with mayo and shredded iceburg, lots of cracked pepper on rye.
Dinner--macaroni and cheese with tomatoes provencal, steamed broccoli followed up by a couple of saltine crackers and chardonnay.
Pretty boring.

Dinner yesterday - Pasta casserole using leftover Anthony Bourdain's Mushroom Soup that I made this past weekend. Also, merlot. I'm trying out the Bota Box stuff. It's actually pretty good.

Breakfast - Shredded Wheat, water and coffee

Lunch will be rice pilaf with lentils and green peas.

For dinner we will finish off the casserole.

6am breakfast yesterday -- hot oatmeal with milk

10am staff meeting -- soy mocha, potato and leek soup

12pm appreciation lunch -- terrible pepperoni pizza from a parlor down the street

8pm -- duck confit and molasses bean bake, Barry's tea with milk and sugar

...now that I look at this, I realise that I eat very strangely on the weekdays...

breakfast: steel cut oats with toasted pecans and maple syrup.

dinner: microgreens from the greenmarket, an avocado, wasa bread, canned salmon, baked corn, a popsicle.

Breakfast - French press and a pork chop biscuit.
Lunch – Leftover hamburger helper.
Snack –2 Bloody Mary’s, 1 Guinness, 1 Natty Light
Dinner – Homemade black bean chili with crackers.

I love this thread too! Ah, PumpkinBear I'm alot like you with regards to hearing what people eat...It's always been "my thing" and I'm glad there are more like me who feel that way as well...

Well, breakfast was a few figs off the tree-
I kept it light as I was going out to lunch with a friend at her family's Italian pizzeria/restaurant...I just felt like ordering pizza--I had one regular Sicialin with extra cheese and a gigantic veggie slice with eggplant, yellow and green zucchini, mushrooms, onions, peppers, chunks of tomatoes, garlic mozzarella with extra tomato sauce on the side...She had bowtie pasta with chicken, peas, ham mushroom and onions...
Then after we went shopping we stopped at the Cheesecake Factory and I had the carrot cake cheesecake and she had the strawberry shortcake and I brought home a piece of pumpkin/pecan pie cheesecake---to be eaten at a later date....
Didn't reallly eat dinner as I was full from everything else....Today is City Island for seafood......I'm thinking a seafood salad of calamari, scungelli, shrimp and scallops with a lemon vinigrette...YUM...(next week after vacation ends, I'll be back to a more boring fare or else I'll be the size of a house)
This is a great thread, PumpkinBear, lets keep it going...

This is fun. The first thing I ask my bf when he gets home is - "what did you have for lunch?" Yesterday I had:
6:30 AM: steel cut oat with wheat germ and dried apricots plus coffee
12:30 PM: a cup of steamed spinach with a sesame dipping sauce and an eel, cucumber and avocado maki roll
5:30 PM: some dried tart cherries and advil before my walk home
6:45 PM: a handful of smart puffs and 2 spoonfuls of butter pecan ice cream before I worked out
8:45 PM: a few cups of roasted brussel sprouts and cauliflower plus a little shredded chicken breast
9:30 PM: a little cup of ice cream and a snifter of Calvados

7 AM: steel cut oat w/peanut butter and blueberries stirred in, coffee, babybel cheese
12:45 PM: homemade white bean, kale and mini lamb meatball soup, selzter
3 PM: 2 clementines
8PM: Jerk Mahi burgers, spinach and apple salad

For 10/8/9:

1pm: 1C plain yogurt with 1/2 Fuji apple (diced) and a few handfuls of blueberries.

3:30p: The rest of the Fuji sliced, each one slathered with creamy peanut butter. A small bowl of roast pork and gravy (mmmm, leftovers).

7p: Dinner for the family = beef/pepper (red and green)/tomato/onion stir-fry. First time I made this for my tribe, and they fought over the leftovers. A keeper.

9:45p: Two freshly-baked oatmeal-raisin cookies (quality control purposes only!).

Water throughout the day and coffee as desired/needed until 6p.

breakfast: homemade granola w/ skim milk
lunch: scallion cream cheese on whole wheat flatbread with cucumber
snack: banana
dinner: sole stuffed with crab, broccolini, cole slaw
snack: dark choc covered macadamia nuts

I always love to know what other people are eating!

Today I had crunchy PB and strawberry jam on italian bread for breakfast with a big glass of skim milk.

Next was a thermos of tea with lemon and sugar.

Lunch was 1/2 can of tuna with lots of celery and mayo, accompanied by an anemic salad of just lettuce and tomato. I really need to get to the grocery store.

At 3pm, I found a pan with ONE brownie left in the kitchen at work. So I ate that and all of the crumbs in the pan.

Dinner? Probably some sort of pasta with some sort of tomato product and maybe steamed zucchini.

breakfast: A bowl of shredded wheat (vanilla almond) with soy milk

lunch: Some left over tofu vegetable stir fry and a small bowl of Perry's ice cream.

Still too early for dinner, it's only 4:30 but chips and apple salsa will be a snack tonight with the Sabres game!

- leftover baked rotini with fresh mozz, sausage, and artichokes
- roast chicken and oven fries

Breakie--grapenuts, soy milk and blueberries

lunch--brown rice stir fry with bay scallops

dinner--pumpkin turkey chili
