So tonight I decided to make something totally original by throwing together some odds and ends I had in the refrigerator. I had leftover homemade cheese sauce spiked with sweet paprika, a mixture of cheesy and spicy Italian sausage that needed to be used or would go to waste, and various produce leftover from a trip to the farmer's market a week ago.
I boiled some pasta and mixed it with the cheese sauce. I ended up searing the sausages, cutting them up and setting them aside. Then I basically made peppers and onions with rosemary, garlic, red pepper flakes, balsamic, and tomato paste and added the sausage back to the pan to finish cooking through.
I served the cheesy pasta with the sausage, peppers, and onions on top and I thought, "Oh my god, I'm eating mac and cheese slathered in sausage and peppers." It's was so freakishly delicious- and only slightly ruined by the thought that this was perhaps the most unhealthy dinner I'd ever made. Two junk foods in one?! Awesome or heart attack waiting to happen?
It's not Paula Deen that's trying to kill me, it's me that's trying to kill me.
