suggestions from those familiar with vegas.

Okay, so I'm taking my first trip to Las Vegas in mid November. (I'm young; don't give me a hard time about the 'Vegas-virginism!)

I'll be staying near the LV Convention Center, near the strip.
Who can tell me the absolute most killer must-do restaurants? Cheap, pricey, casual-- whatever is simply great and representative of the city.

Please and thank you guys!

Be careful in that area. That is the part that is always on Cops. Lived in Vegas for 10 years. What kind of food do you like? They have awesome Italian. Visit the Venetian just for the Italian ices. Just ask when you enter. They will direct you. The Excaliber has a phenomenal Italian restaurant on the second floor. Worth the money you will have to plunk down. The coffee that finishes the dinner is so good, but, very powerful. Drink only if you are planning on being up for the evening.

Also, there is a Ruth Chris Steakhouse on Flamingo and Arville that is a well kept secret. This is where Ray Charles to Elton John go after shows. Yes, it is very pricey, but, you might be dining with some world renown. I watched Elton driving over there once; we lived across the street. Figured it out later. Great food!

Do ask your friends what and where they dined and what they liked. There is a Lawry's Steakhouse....and a few other places around it. You will probably run into the Mayor...Mayor Oscar Goodman. And yes, he is as colorful as you would think. You will have a great time. Hope you post about it.

Green Valley Ranch has a great Irish Pub. Go there and drink and sing along with the band...and try the beer batter cod! The Guinness is awesome!

hmmm, I suppose I should mention this: I am going as a student (for career related purposes, a weeklong internship) with three other ladies. Which means I won't be rolling in cash! Further, none of us is familiar with the area.

Thanks, @hunkerdown. keep the ideas coming!

again I will tout Mon Ami Gabi at the Paris and the Paris buffet...much better in my opinion than the Bellagio...although don't miss the fountain show (at night is best) at the Bellag...it's something else.

We went several years ago for a few days and enjoyed www.fireflylv.com on Paradise Road. It is a tapas place and we thought it was very reasonable for two. There also Ellis Island. Can't remember the address but it is off the beaten track. We were on a budget as well and had a small kitchen in our unit and ate there one night so we could splurge at Rosemary's Restaurant. Go to egullet or yelp for some additional help. Have fun and if you get a chance to go to the Canyon or Hoover Dam take it.

Burger Bar at the Mandalay Bay - must get the jalapeno bacon!

@emilytaylor --since you're going with the ladies, and ladies do love to shop, you've got to check out the mall at Ceasars Palace. It is one of a kind and make sure to stop in at Chinois, Wolfgangs take on Asian fusion. It's awesome and in the mall.
