Suggestions for restaurants in/around Morningside Heights

So we've just moved to this neighborhood, and while we are not avid restaurant-goers, we would like to explore what's available to us.

So far the food we've encountered has been decent, but not great (with the exception of Dinosaur Barbecue)--does anyone have any must-visit places to suggest?

Thanks!

There have been a number of SE posts on recommendations for Morningside Heights.

Community Food and Juice is good but I think they are currently closed. Symposium is fun and the best thing to get is the symposium salad. Max Soha on Amsterdam is very good and well priced. Le Monde is reliable and good. Deluxe is pretty good for breakfast but can be unreliable. Silver Moon Bakery is a must-go place for all baked goods.

For burgers, you'll want to try Jimbo's on broadway between 125 and 126th- total greasy spoon diner and utterly delicious.

Just down the block from Max Soha is Kitchenette- delicious american comfort food.

Ajanta Indian restaurant on Amsterdam around 122nd is a great standby for Indian, although the ambiance is nothing special- get it to go. Massawa ethopian is right next door- if you've never tried it, you should.

I forget it's name, and am not even 100% sure it's still there, but there also used to be a really nice little hidden Italian restaurant on LaSalle Street between Broadway and Tieman place.

For Indian fast food, try Roti Roll on 109th and Amsterdam- it's cheap, fast, and amazing. Shrimp is the best, and lamb a close runner-up.

Spoonbread on 110th and Columbus is supposed to be great down-home cooking, although i've never tried it.

And The Terrace on Morningside Drive around 118th or so is the go-to "fancy" restaurant for dates and power lunches among the upper eschelons of the Columbia U faculty and staff. If you're budget is tight, wait for restaurant week to go there.

Finally, around 102nd and Broadway you have the cheesy but always fun and tasty Mama Mexico (get the guacamole and order off the specials of the day), and across the street, one of the best slices of pizza in the city, Sal and Carmines (just get the plain).

I'll also second the recommendation for LeMonde for brunch.

@ mr guy - are you talking about Pisticci (the place on LaSalle)? If so, it's still there I believe.

Thanks so much for this--super helpful. My face is a little red right now, because I just realized that I posted this a month ago and completely forgot about it...so I apologize for the double-post.

We're right by the Indian and Ethiopian places, and I'm glad that they're worth looking into--I pass them on my way home every day. And Pisticci is also pretty close, and I checked out their menu and it's definitely on my list.

So far we've tried Max Soha (OK, but could not stand the cash-only policy), The Mill (worth trying again), and my husband has been to Le Monde for dinner and wasn't thrilled, but perhaps brunch would be better.

Has anyone been to Métisse?

Taqueria y Fonda la Mexicana has, by far, the best Mexican food on the West Side. Consider the milkshakes at Tom's Restaurant and the lamb burger at TOAST. Also, the Ribs and Fried Chicken at Rack & Soul are top notch.
