Need potluck ideas
I am bringing both a side/salad dish and a dessert to my company's potluck next week. It is a new job and my first time cooking for them.
Any thoughts on a good side dish for a potluck?

Side dish: 3 bean salad (easy to assemble and make ahead)
Dessert: tiramisu (almost everyone loves this, and it's usually the first dish to be finished)

I just suggested this for a vegan dessert, but this would be a great way to impress your coworkers: flourless chocolate cake.
Orzo salad with different marinated vegetables would be good and can be served warm or at room temperature.

For a potluck I always like to take Chris Kimball's Coleslaw with apple and fennel, which is an easy make ahead. You didn't ask for a dessert, but everyone loves cupcakes. The NYTimes had this vegan chocolate cupcake recipe which would fool anyone. I wouldn't even mention that they're vegan until after they've been wolfed down. Neither recipe requires a exotic ingredients

Marinated vegetables, an artichoke-bell pepper-olive salad or chopped broccoli or grated carrot salad are all easy and can be made ahead.
Roasted vegatable platter/salad would be nice too. Roasted squash with sage, toasted pecans and a maple viniagrette?
Cupcakes or bar style cookies are perfect for dessert. Short on time?
Bring ice cream and chocolate wafer cookies. Top with warm fudge sauce.

There is an apple/pear salad with lemon poppy seed dressing that tastes wonderful and looks beautiful and is very easy that I've taken to functions several times. (http://find.myrecipes.com/food/recipefinder.dyn?action=displayRecipe&recipe_id=1589419). Also a wheatberry salad with dried fruit or Quinoa Tabbouleh would be very nice.

Cheesecake is a can't miss on the desert table.

This is exactly what i need too!! Pot luck ideas!!! Thank you!! My work is having a pot luck on the 24th. I was thinking of either broccoli salad, the kind with the raisins, almonds and bacon in it. So good. Or 7 Layer salad. Layers (7) :) of lettuce, caulifower, frozen peas, crumbled bacon, cheese and red onion, topped with a dressing made with mayo, sugar and cider vinegar. I've never had it but how bad could it be? Make it in a deep, glass bowl so you can see the layers. Both can be made the night before.
For dessert, and in keeping with the 7 Layer theme, how about 7 Layer bars? So easy and so good.

Since it's a pot luck I'd suggest cookies since they're so portable. I always feel like fall should be about oatmeal cookies or snickerdoodles, but that's just me.
I agree with the above poster about the idea for an orzo salad. I love pasta salad and I love orzo because it's not overly pasta-y.

I suggest a Moroccan couscous salad... it's a nice change of pace from the usual potato and pasta salads. Everywhere I bring it, guests literally clean the bowl! It's on my blog -- click on my name and then type in "couscous" in the search field at the top right. It's really unique and so delicious!
