Must Eats in NYC?
Hi all! I'm hoping to get some recommendations on where to eat during a quick trip to NYC. I have a huge list of thoughts, but want to narrow it down to the best. I'll have a breakfast, two lunches, and one (maybe two) dinners in mid November. Thanks for your help!

What's your budget and where are you staying?

Expense account or scrimp-n-save-n-spend-your-own-money??
Joe's Shanghai Be prepared to sit with strangers at one of the huge round tables if smaller tables are not available. It's best to go at off hours - 11:00 a.m. or 2-3 p.m. High lunch hour = be prepared to wait.
As a foodie, I make it a rule to visit SoHo and browse the gourmet stores. I grab some bread and cheese - maybe some jam, DEFINITELY coffee - and sit in the park to snack. Gourmet Garage and Dean & DeLuca are must-visits.
For high end meals, I love One If By Land TIBS. I know there are mixed reviews but after many years of dining there, I have never had a bad meal. And whatever you do - have the Beef Wellington.

Thanks! I forgot about budget =) I'll be dining solo and spending my own money, but would like to do one higher end meal. I don't know quite where I'm staying yet, but love New York and certainly won't mind bouncing all over the city.

John's pizzeria -- I can never remember the exact cross-streets, but it's across the street from Phantom of the Opera, and next door to what is or recently was The Producers.

Katz's deli for sure! This wouldn't be the place to order lox, but it is the place for Pastrami & knishes (they also have a GREAT hot dog). I would also highly recommend Ess-A-Bagel for bagels (obvs).

You should be checking out the Serious Eats NY page , always great ideas there. Shake Shack is an obvious must.
