If You Smelled Like Any Food...

This was brought up the other day at the office, and it really seemed to make everyone stop and think. what if, from whatever quirk happened, you smelled naturally like a food. Not the "I am working out at the gym and sweating out that Indian curry that I had for lunch" smell, but just a natural, good smell. What food would you choose to smell like?

I can't seem to decide. I like the idea of smelling like fresh bread or pancakes and maple syrup, but maybe something more exotic, like lychee or mango.

What would you smell like?

85 Comments:

bacon. ha!

interesting question....a peach....coffee beans...cinnamon...?

definitely cinnamon

Hehe. I'd love to smell like crème brûlée, a subtle vanilla custardy scent.

lemons! or verbena...something citrusy.

Oh, I should have added - nothing that could be a spice (so, they eliminated things like cinnamon, ginger, etc.)

Grapefruit!

@traveller: kickass topic!

On a date: Chocolate, caramel and vanilla
Alone on the couch: probably bacon LOL
Out for dinner: Garlic: kinda goes with everything?

@bananamonkey: verbena smells like heaven!

Rosemary or basil. Guess I like herbs...though there is no better smell than bread baking. OK, rosemary olive oil bread.

Something that is an acquired taste like a stinky offensive cheese. Then I'd know that my friends aren't just hanging around because I smell like something from yankee candle or bath and body works. Also, it would ward off the artificial yankee candle/bath and body works types.

There are a lot of good ones (strawberries, basil, peaches), but I'd go with cilantro.

Freshly cooked rice.

Jasmine (does that count?), orange, or raspberry.

Pot Roast and homemade yeast rolls. Yea I know you want to follow me around!

Candied Grapefruit Peel or Key Lime Marmalade

fresh baked doughnuts.

cilantro or bacon. Maybe fresh baked apple pie.

@yayfood - That's hysterical.

@gbania - I never knew freshly cooked rice to have a very distinct smell...I mean I know it does but it doesn't stand out too much.

I'd go with Vanilla Cookies:

@redfish -- haha! I have no idea what haggis smells like, though...

@redfish: LOL what does it smell like?

Someone told me they read the results of a test of which scents most attracted men.

In no particular order, they were:

Pumpkin
Leather
Grapefruit

I wish I knew where this was done and by whom. Fascinating stuff...

chocolate chip cookies. especially the vanilla brown sugar part.

Fiiine, no cinnamon! Second choice, lemons.

@gbania--I had not realized how much I love the smell of freshly cooked rice until I read your comment. It is fragrant and earthy and comforting.

What a great choice!

Definitely fresh baked/baking bread. No question about it. :)

molasses taffy

@Banana Monkey and @Eating The Road -- freshly cooked rice just smells like home to me -- reminds me of dinners when I was a kid b/c a bowl of rice was invariably a part of every meal -- plus it's my favorite thing in the whole world to eat. Yum!

coconut milk

"Studies in 1998 and 2006 by Alan Hirsch of The Smell & Taste Treatment Research Foundation reported that men were most aroused (40% more blood flow) by the smells of lavender and pumpkin pie, and by doughnuts and licorice (31.5%)." (from http://naturalmedicine.suite101.com/)

^ That.

Actually, I wear mostly 'food-based' perfumes from Jo Malone that smell a lot like the real thing. My year-round favorite is 'Grapefuit', but in the winter I like 'Figs & Cassis' or 'Nutmeg & Ginger.' It smells like I've been baking all day!

Vanilla cupcakes with buttercream frosting! :)

Nobody for durian? Nobody? Bueller?

I think I might go with sage or basil.

Fresh baked bread
apple cider/caramel apples
Jasmine rice

Can't decide...

Fresh mountain strawberries.

with a hint of vanilla sugar.

a really good pear

When I was a teenager I would wear pure vanilla extract because it's always been my favorite smell.

All of my lotions/perfumes are usually food-related. Bath & Body Works is really good at this, too; they have brown sugar & fig perfume I wear often. There's also this perfume company I'm really obsessed with called Demeter that captures the best smells and puts them in perfume form. Aside from great things like rain, freshly cut grass, and leather, they have the best food ones. I often wear vanilla, angel food cake, pumpkin pie ...

I just realized I spend a freakish amount of money on food-related scents.

tomato leaves

@_greenbean: Great idea! What about ginger snaps? Those would be great!

Smelling like citrus (no matter how much I do like it) would make me smell like I'd been cleaning the house all day.

I'm going with "fresh-baked bread with top notes of honey and apple butter".

I'd smell like pie. Pumpkin pie. Yummm.

chocolate :)

@Traveller....ginger snaps...mmm...that sounds good! i'm tempted to pick a scent for all seasons. i might be back :) great topic!

I don't like to wear food-based scents because they make me hungry, but since this is a fantasy and not reality, I'm going with marzipan.

my husband love the smell of grapefruit, so i should go with that. but i love the smell of cucumber or sage.

The Body Shop makes the most downright tasty smelling oils ever.

They used to make a variety that I loved: it came in a small short brown bottle with a dent along the side that smelled of: a Hot Fudge and Caramel sundae with vanilla ice cream. My ex really liked it...and when I would have a cigarette: I would smell like a cuban cigar! LOL

I have a strange feeling we had this topic long ago and I made this suggestion....hm

in the summer limes, in the fall caramel apples, in the winter peppermint and in the spring angel food cake

Mother's milk.

@Eating the Road - lol! or perhaps some hazelnut coffee ...

Vanilla, cinnamon rolls, or coconut, but not in an overpowering way.

The way coffee smells when it first starts to drip into the carafe in the morning. And popcorn! But I think I'll steal kathyvegas' scent and go with Meyer lemons: citrus-y, but different.

So one night a long, long time ago, the boys' dad was making tuna burgers. He opened the can of Starkist and one of the boys wrinkled his nose at the smell, whereupon his dad said, "Get used to it, son. In a few years, you're gonna love this aroma." Ewww. That is NOT what I smell like!

lemons... lemongrass... or strawberries.

Coconut. I'd smell like the beach.

Peposo. Its an Italian dish that's simple, delicious and can take upwards of 15 hrs. to cook and is amazing.

Fresh baked croissants. If I'm going to be bread, I might as well be high-maintenance bread.

Oranges or bacon.

Is liquor a food? After a loooooooong Monday, I think I'd like to smell like amaretto or kahlua or a nice red port...

Oops. Sorry. I just realized I posted the peposo in the wrong thread. Sorry about that. Moving on to Heat Up The House thread.

@chisai -- It would be kind of awesome to smell like peposo.

Since cardamom is off the table, I'd go for caramel apples.

pot roast with gravy and mashed potatoes

What a great topic! so nice just to read through and imagine all these smells (except cilantro ach.) probably fresh bread for a while, but I thing I'd be happier with strawberry for longer.

@moibec. pumpkin or grapefruit? I think I'd want to be sure about this before I went around smelling like pumpkin. But I'd do grapefruit.

lemonfair:

At my local Supercuts styling place, they sell a brand of hairstyling products - the brand is "Sexy Hair Concepts" (www.sexyhair.com).

I have on my shelf at home here a little 4 oz. jar of (get ready...) "Pumpkin Whipped Souffle Styling Creme". Kid you not. Smells great and you need only tiny bit.

When I first saw it I smirked, but when I smelled it I fell in love.

Forgot to say the pumpkin styling creme is from the "Sexy Hair" brand.

Yeah, okay anything with pumpkin I would immediately go for! How could I have forgotten that?

And maybe hot choclate with marshmallows (at least in the winter)...

I'd love to smell like brownies or oatmeal raisin cookies while they're baking in the oven. Unfortunately - the reality is - I usually smell like soup!! My boyfriend & I have a coffee shop where we sell a lot of homemade soups - we walked into the bank one day to talk to someone, sat down with her & she immediately looked up & said - "you guys smell like soup!" Not very sexy....makes you think of old people or something...

@orlandodrknmnky: Don't feel too badly. When I was a barista at a chain coffee place (it was high school/college and I needed the money) I came home smelling like burnt espresso and spilled coffee and whipped cream. The problem was that, at the time, I had a Saint Bernard and she thought that I *was* food, and would lick me incessantly until I could shower and change!

coq au vin. or warm lavender honey. aromatic and comforting!

vanilla extract for sure

Animal crackers..........

I would smell like vanilla...in fact I really miss my vanilla scented body wash. The brand I buy discontinued that flavor so maybe I'll have to go find another brand that makes it.

Another good one is grapefruit: it always smells so fresh!

I've been told I smell like warm milk and cookies...which I can live with. :D

coffee, popcorn, fresh bread, or cinnamon.

A roast in the oven - Fresh bread baking - coffee grinding - chili cooking with lots of garlic - vanilla - cinnamon.

Mm, definitely vanilla or peppermint. Maybe both. :-)

Anything would beat the days in high school when I worked at the hockey rink concession stand and smelled permanently like hotdogs and burnt popcorn!

Rosemary, grapefruit, or basmati rice as it cooks. I don't know why someone doesn't make a perfume that smells like rosemary. And I've spent a small fortune on grapefruit scents. Some smell great, like the Jo Malone perfume, but none smell truly like grapefruit.

I always say that I love the smell of Basil so much that I would rub it on my like perfume if I could. So it's Basil for me!

Melted butter and (real) maple syrup.

I'd like to smell like freshly baked bread or steamed bun; my boyfriend actually smells like steamed bun (although other people may not perceive it that way). Surely there must be some scientists out there doing a research on people who smell like food and their pheromones?

Fresh pina coladas...coconut, pineapple and spice notes from the rum...yum!

I don't like musk and never! cloying floral, so that leaves food products for perfume.

When I wear scent during warm weather, it's Happy by Clinique--a big hit of orange with several floral layers, not too sweet. I don't wear it at work because I read that citrus scents make women more aggressive (no need to rile up the boss & co-workers, yikes!)

For colder weather, I'd like something with ginger & vanilla: I want to smell like Christmas cookies, lol. But, spicy perfumes usually have more musk than I can stand. So, I'm still looking.

Maybe I'll just dab on some Old Overholt; I could do worse. But behind the knees, not the ears: Someone might think I'm a lush.

Speaking of booze, I had a female housemate who wore the classic man's scent, Bay Rhum. (As the name suggests, bay laurel and rum aromas.) Then again, she was a 250# bull dyke, so . . . .
