Arthur Avenue - Where to eat dinner?

My husband and I are going to Arthur Avenue for the first time tomorrow night. We were planning to try the eggplant parmesan at Arthur Avenue Cafe but just realized it's closed after 6 pm. Any suggestions? Somewhere that has standout eggplant parm would be great! Thanks.

There are many good players around Arthur Ave. and all will have steady versions of Italian-American dishes. My long time favorite though is Mario's on Arthur Ave. (mariosrestarthurave.com), a friendly old world institution with great gravy and kitsch...robust pastas, wonderful braciole and real fine eggplant parmigiana. If you ask, they can also prepare one of the best neapolitan style pizzas in the city...for the Bronx a major celebrity haunt too! Free parking is a plus.

Thanks! We decided to postpone our excursion until Saturday when we get there in time for Arthur Ave Cafe being open. But I'm definitely putting Mario's on our list to try as well.

Emelia's, IMHO, is the very best. I grew up in the Bronx right near Arthur Ave, went to Roosevelt High, had a bunch of Italian relatives who lived there, and I go back frequently. Hands down, I think Emelia's is the best. Here's a link to their site:

089, the restaurant with an antique Fiat parked in front of it a few blocks down, is a close second choice.

Lived there for four years. Every time I'm in New York we roll through for snacks on the way home! My favorites: Pasquale Rigolettos, Domenicks (which FYI, is family style and has no menu). If you're looking to pick up a pizza go to Full Moon or if you want to get some excellent Italian groceries and the Market is closed, go to Tino's. Right next to the Chase Bank. I looove.

My father has worked there for over thirty years and some of my fondest memories are lunches at Patricia's on Morris Park Ave. has fantastic pizza and the thoroughly enjoyable Italian American staples.

Also Roberto's is pretty amazing, and much more upscale. Its not actually Arthur Ave either, but when you taste the food you'll get over that!

For something completely different check out this episode of Bronx Flavor where Baron Ambrosia visits Ann & Tony's on Arthur avenue:

I guess there is no consensus so far! Not a single restaurant got recommended twice!
