Anyone have a Vitamix at home?

I'm wondering if they're worth the extra cost for at home use. We have one at work and it's pretty brilliant and easy.

I just had an "incident" with our Kitchen-Aid blender and I'm seriously considering going with the Vitamix. The Kitchen-Aid seems to have a "bounce" property when it's working, rather than being a smooth pureeing. So when making a beet aioli just a minute ago I was frantically trying to drizzle in the oil as spatters of bloodlike looking goop jumped to the counters, cabinets and ceiling. This never happens with the Vitamix.

So any home owners of the Vitamix in the SE community have any thoughts on cost versus value for a home user?

HI-I have had one since about 1988-the same one actually. I have never had to replace the blades, and I use it daily. I have made soups, ground oatmeal for flour, made ice cream from soy milk, and made homemade soups with cashews chopped into it for a creamier soup. I bought two containers, and only have one stamper thingee. But honestly, I don't cook a lot, and it is my once a day used tool to cook with. The only thing it doesnt do as well as a food processor is chop onions and the like. It kinda pulverizes them to a liquid!!! Other than that, go get one. Absolutely recommend it. You can get at Costco, or go to www.drfuhrman.com and order one from his website. Good luck. Let me know what you think after using it for awhile. - Debi

Run and buy one! You can buy a reconditioned one with the same warranty as new from their website at a significant savings. I bought one a little over 5 years ago reconditioned, and it's wonderful.

I work in a high-end kitchenware store and we don't sell VitaMix; and it's a shame because NONE of the others are nearly as good.

If I could only keep 10 kitchen items, my VitaMix would be one of them.

I got addicted to them when I cooked professionally. I use mine daily, and I cook a lot. great pureeing, betters etc. The same as what DEBRALEE said, though: if you want something dry-chopped, use the food processor.

I adore my Vitamix. I also bought a refurbished and have no complaints. Other than it's too heavy to carry around with me, but that's a minor detail. Yes, yes and yes, it's worth it.

If I was in need of a new blender I'd certainly save up for a vitamix. My mom has one and I am so envious. It can make powdered sugar!
