Alex's Day Off
This is the second week her new series has been on FN...haven't heard any comments. I think she's great. How about you?

I haven't bothered watching... I couldn't stand her other cooking show. The recipes looked great but she kept using baby talk and it was super annoying. She's ok as a judge on Chopped... Is her new show better than her last one?

We watched the first show (taped, it's on at a bad time), and my husband pronounced it a failure because she is trying to be sweet when she is so bat-sh_t crazy mean on Chopped. But he dislikes a lot of the Chopped judges for that reason, "inexplicable cruelty." (Don't get him started on Arron Sanchez). Anyway, I thought it was weak as well, not only for her attitudinal about-face, but for her simple recipes and quaint stories of short cuts that we all know from our mothers and grandmothers. It was really a basic cooking show. Probably won't remember to tape it again.

I'm an Alex fan but still not sure if I'm lovon' the show. Going to have to check out another segment or two.
You know me- more cooking, less gushing.

I have watched both episodes. I'll probably keep watching but I'm not crazy about it. I too would prefer a more serious approach to the recipes. She must have a wealth of great tips etc. I'd love to hear them.

I thoguht it was pretty good actually. I'm not sitting home just to watch it, but if it is on, I'll watch.

'chopped' bugs me....the host's odd speech pattern, the judges' shitty remarks, and honestly, most of the contestants--they literally bleed and sweat into the food far too much.
so, no interest in watching alex's day off, since i don't like her when she's 'at work'.
that sanchez dude's other show is crap too.
it's like fn has contractual obligations to give all of those hacks in their own shows.
gee, i'm a delight today, huh?

Her first shw drove me to distraction...it wasn't the cooking, there was just something about it. I was eager to know what she was saying but SHE got in the way of it all. I really like the new show. However it is that Bobby Flay is coaching her, it's working for me! She is certainly qualified ( have you seen her bio?), I like her on Chopped, even if some of the contestants are riduclous from the get-go. I hope the new show does well. She knows her stuff, I like her spin on the food and I always learn lots; she is very free with the knowledge and tips.

I think Alex is such a jerk! She's really rude to the contestants on Chopped. To a contestant who was just conversing casually with her and agreeing with her, she actually said, "I'm sorry would you like to sit in my chair?". Then proceeded to pause and glare at the contestant.
I don't watch television anymore (haven't turned it one since august) because I don't like negative energy spewing into my home in the form of nasty interactions like that one.

I saw one episode (the one with the grilled radicchio) and I was sort bored. The food looked good, but it came off as "yet another Food Network show", nothing original, nothing that really grabs ya or is even unique. I'm thankful that she's a real chef, but I found it hard to resist to stifle a yawn.
As for her judging skills on Chopped. The premise of the show is just gawd-awful (I think it's just a truncated version of Iron Chef with more battle participants), but her comments could be valid, she's got the credentials. The contestants are professions, not foodie amateurs with no experience. At this level, judges have to get really nitpicky about the food because everyone is a good chef with lots of experience and the expections should be high.
A lot of stuff happens and often is left out to squeeze episodes into the allotted time or to skew the impressions. How do we know that Alex wasn't responding to something else when she was rude to the contestant?
