I love this company. They are very competitive on price, have a ginormous selection, and deliver when promised.

I suggest you make an order for one type of cheese as a "trial run." Good luck in your search!

@chiff - what company?

Try the Artisanal Cheese Center out of Manhattan...they have great variety and on-line shopping. They have a booth at some of the local farmers' markets. Go to Artisanal Cheese Center.com

I'll toot the horn for a couple of local companies - Cabot cheese, which I think is about as good as you're going to get in the non-artisanal department, and Dakin Farms, which has great ham, bacon (my favorite bacon), summer sausage, etc., and their own cheese as well. Both have gift packages. If you want artisanal cheeses here's a list of Vermont Cheesemakers, and some have online sales, but I can't vouch for the whole list. Depending on where you live you might be able to try out the cabot cheeses at costco or even walmart (my sister can get this in Kentucky)

(If you end up ordering from Cabot get yourself some cheddar cheese powder - basically defatted cheddar, whey, and buttermilk. It's great on popcorn, makes a credible instant mac and cheese)

I use http://www.igourmet.com/shoppe/cheese.asp?top for Parmesan, Grana Padano, and Leyden. Quality is excellent and I've never had a complaint.

there are some stores based in nyc that sell cheese online:

http://www.murrayscheese.com/
i think someone already mentioned http://www.artisanalcheese.com/
and http://www.saxelbycheese.com/

I've gotten a nice assortment of cheeses from igourmet.com. Watch for their sales - good buys at times -

they package well and the products are good.

Second that on igourmet.com. I sent my mom and dad a box of assorted cheeses in June. The cheese arrived at their house packed in a styrofoam chest with ice packs. They said the cheese was great, and loved the variety. The prices were reasonable, and shipping was fast.

I third on igourmet.com

Never had a bad experience and they have some great sales.

merci buckets
used Artisanal Cheese Center out of Manhattan awesome site
have since seen them in Wine Spectator issue on cheese

I too was going to reccomend Murray's Cheese in New York. The company's Vice President, Liz Thorpe, recently released a book called the Cheese Chronicles, which I had to review. I ended up ordering some of the cheeses she discusses in the book and was not disappointed. It was quite expensive, mostly because of overnight shipping, but the cheeses were awesome.

Murrry's cheese for sure! great online store and great cheese & other stuff...LOVE IT! You won't be disappointed..

And try the Mozzarella Company in Dallas. They have more than Mozzarella and they're Great!
All cheeses are made by hand.

Dang! My link didn't post! (If I had been alerted to responses to this topic, I would have come back sooner...hint, hint).

OK, here it is: Marky's.

Speaking of sales.....Imported Provolone 4.99 a pound, Parmigiano Reggiano 13.99, Grana Padano 10.99
