What to feed my sick ladies at home?

I had the flu all week and now I'm finally recovering but unfortunately both my wife and daughter seemed to have caught what I had. =(

Neither of them have been able to stomach anything more than a few slices of fruit today. I'm wondering what are a few good, nutritious, and light meals I can prepare tonight and over the weekend as they recover.

Soup. Soup, soup, soup.

chicken noodle soup and saltines

Rice porridge
Matzo Ball Soup
Beef Consomme

Simple soups- chicken and rice, chicken and noodles, beef consomme, soup and more soup.
And get new toothbrushes, wipe off door, faucet, cabinet handles, etc.
Hope you're all feeling better soon.

Chicken soup. But definitely not from a can! Real fresh, homemade chicken stock has beneficial anti-inflammatory properties that actually help bring down swelling of respiratory passageways and the fats sooth sore throats.

It's really simple and can be done relatively quickly. I usually use chicken legs because the meat is easy to harvest and they cook faster than other parts of the chicken.

The old BRAT diet for the first few days -- bananas, rice, applesauce, dry toast. Ginger ale made with real ginger is a tummy soother as well. Then I concur with light soups and saltines.

Thanks everyone! I'll make a big batch of soup tonight.

Any ideas for a cold dish?
It's pretty hot outside and I know they're both sweating already from fever.

What about a nice cold fruit smoothie for breakfast? Frozen fruit blended into fruit juice is pretty easy on the stomach and packed with vitamins. Not to mention cold and refreshing! Add in a little yogurt or cottage cheese if they're up for dairy.

If they can't stomach any food, I'd simply make them a ton of freshly squeezed orange juice. They'll need the Vitamin C to fight their flu.

Thanks for the suggestions thinkingincrayons and pumpkinbear, I do have oranges at home that I can squeeze.
Also I have bananas, strawberries, and kiwis which I think would make a nice smoothie with some OJ.

I think we'll make it

@ AyeEat - I think smoothies are a great idea. I like using frozen banana chunks instead of ice to make them thick and cold.

chicken soup. homemade. I just absolutely nipped a cold in the bud with lots of Vitamin D and homemade soup (added a little minced celery, onions and carrots, cabbage and grated ginger to the broth, added ramen noodles without the seasoning packet. Only took about 7 minutes to make the soup)

old fashioned baked egg custard or tapioca.

I always make ginger tea for myself and husband when we're sick. Slice up about 2" of ginger (no need to peel) and add to about 3-4 cups of water. Boil for about 15-20 minutes until the water is golden. Add fresh lemon juice and honey. It really helps you breathe easier and gives you some energy. I know it's not cold, but I also make carrot/lemon/ginger soup - somehow the onions, ginger, lemon and carrot are like a superdrug to snap you out of your cold - works every time!

chicken broth with egg drop and pastina, yogurt (good bacteria for their tummies, to get rid of all those germs), ginger ale, tea with honey, a souffled omelet...light and tasty...they'll feel better in a few days!

Tea and toast. Sounds good to me even when I'm not sick.
