Unduly influenced by Hollywood?
Has anyone ever gone to a restaurant based on the fact that it was showcased, highlighted or even played a small part in one of your favorites movies? For instance, Rumplemeyer's in NYC, because you loved the movie "Serendipity" starring John Cusack? Or perhaps you've gone to Le Grand Colbert because Diane Keaton, Keanu Reeves and Jack Nicholson dined there in "Somethings Gotta Give"?
I worry that I am being unduly influenced by Hollywood in my choice to try the latter...I will be in Paris for my anniversary night next month, and the idea of going to that restaurant seems so romantic to me, partially because I really love that movie.
Has anyone actually been there? Is it really as good as the movie portrays?

oh, and the only place i've been to that's been in a movie was katz's deli in manhattan, but i didn't go there b/c of meg ryan faking an orgasm in it. i did see the sign, but i was there for the borscht!

Quite by accident, I used to eat regularly in the diner featured in the movie Arthur. I had no idea it was the place used in the movie but I'd visit a friend in Manhattan and we'd eat there all the time.
I used to frequent Gargiulo's - the place featured in the Godfather where Michael Corleone shoots the two guys at the table after getting a gun out of the john.
Depending on the movie and why the place was featured, I'd definitely go to a restaurant for that reason!
I've gone to restaurants featured on local PBS shows that highlight local restaurants. This Is Atlanta Cooking is one such show. Found 2 great places because of them. Not quite a movie but "power of suggestion" was well in force.

I ate at Shopsin's because I saw "I Like Killing Flies", but that's not really the same....

Hollywood or not, one's perception of romantic is quite subjective and your romantic might just be my annoyance. You'll be in Paris on a very special occasion and I'd advise you to go to the place that already has a head start on making your evening together special.
It's not the place, it's not the menu and it's not the execution... it is what you and the person across the table from you make of it. Go there and fall in love all over again. Congratulations..!
