Tuna Fish Salad WITHOUT the Tuna

I do enjoy a good tuna fish salad. I usually make a sandwich with it or just lap it up with saltine crackers. These are the only two ways I have ever had it. I guess you could say I just don't know any better. Just tuna from a can, mayo, diced dill pickles, salt, and pepper. How do you make your tuna? Also, do you have alternate versions using different types of fish or any other meat?

I make mine however the spirit moves me. Usually some form of tuna, chopped celery, onion, cucumber, red pepper, lemon juice and mayo.

Sometimes a little dill or pickles, kalamata olives, sun dried tomaotes, etc.

My favorite is made with fresh, grilled tuna. Oh yum.

I have seen a couple of recipes that use either garbonzo beans or tofu. Haven't tried either yet.

canned all white meat tuna. celery, red onion, small dice dill pickles, mayo (just enough to coat), mustard, spoonful of relish. season with ms. dash, salt and lots of black pepper. perfect tuna salad.

usually eaten with saltines but if im feeling fancy, some nice grilled/toasted bread. yum, want some right now

White tuna only. "Chunk light" is brown.

Brunoise of Carrot
Finely diced Red Onion
Brunoise of Poblano Pepper
S&P
Chopped Cilantro

Here is my BBQ Chix salad. Give it a try.

Solid white in water
dijon mustard
onion
feta cheese
apple cider vinegar
dill pickle
pesto
cracked pepper

Truly better than it sounds.

of course... now that i am vegetarian I make my TuNo Salad sandwiches with soy protein. If you buy the kind that comes without sauce, they taste just as good as I remember the originals. Just make sure to squeeze dry the TuNo.

And if you're in the mood for something room temp or hot, you can stew the tuno the same I used to make stewed salmon... I make it into antipasto and eat with white rice, crackers or tostones.

Tuna, celery, roasted red peppers, capers or olives, mayo and a dash of mustard, salt, pepper and some sort of heat - Tobasco, Sriacha, whatever.

Or, tuna with drained canned pineapple, whatever mustard I feel like that day, dash of cinnamon, salt and pepper.

Smoked salmon, chopped if you like, with dill cream cheese on a bagel or pilot bread...Not really tuna salad style, but delish!


I'm veg, so Quorn is a good alternative--I'm getting lots of good ideas from reading this thread! I sometimes use just plain vegan mayo (if feeling virtuous) but awhile ago I used to like to make the classic chicken salad of raisins, walnuts, mayo, lettuce, and so forth...

you could do a salmon/tarragon salad for an alternative

Albacore tuna, lobster chunks, crab or shredded chicken with mayo, dill pickle, celery, apple. Sometimes no apple, with lemon pepper and green onion. Sometimes with grapes instead of apples, with toasted walnuts. Sometimes on lettuce, sometimes on toast or a nice fluffy roll like a potato roll or croissant.

One daughter-in-law does tuna, mayo and crushed Doritos.

Tuna, pickles, onions, mayo, peppers, and love.

If you really want to do it without the tuna, try a combination of ground chickpeas and artichoke hearts with olive oil, salt and pepper.

I like adding red onions, tomatoes, and olives.
Sometimes just oil and capers and lemon juice.

I like adding a bit of wasabi powder to the mayo before adding it to the tuna and veggies. It gives it a great kick!

A also like chicken, salmon, ham, turkey and egg salads.
