search function limited to only one page of results?

Let me start by saying I know the site upgrades are a work in progress. I wonder if anyone else is experiencing some weirdness with the search function?

For instance, I was looking for a thread about leeks. I started by entering just 'leeks' i the search function, and got a set of results, but only one page's worth (maybe 20 results?) organized in from most recent and going back about three or four. It did not including a thread I myself started a few months ago (i know i could have searched my own profile, that's not quite the point). I also knew that someone had started as similar thread subsequent to mine and gotten different results. That second thread didn't pop up either. I changed the search to 'what to do with leeks' which I though might be the thread title I recalled being created a few months ago. Lo and behold, there it was--albeit buried in the page b/c.

So, I guess the question is-- is search now limited to one page of results organized by date instead of relevance? Because that is extremely unhelpful.

wow that should read "organized in reverse chronological order and going back about three or four months"

the real question is not even about results appearing in reverse chronological order, as much as it is why only one page of results?

I am having a similar issue on the talk tab: if you click older at the bottom of the list of recent topics, pages comes up with only 3-4 topics, click older again, might be half a page, older again, might be 5-6. Weird....

@BananaMonkey: I noticed that earlier today as I tried to search for something I know is on the site. I'm sure Alaina will weigh in here with the official skinny on what's going on when she gets out of the meeting she's in, but I've notified her, and we're working on it.

@Cary: What you're seeing is correct. The "Older" link pages you back through each day's worth of Talk topics. You're probably seeing the daily archive pages for the weekend, which are traditionally light (and even moreso this past weekend with the down time). If you page back to, say, 9/24/2009, you'll see 17 topics. Just depends on how chatty people have been.

@BananaMonkey, thanks for calling this out. We're taking a second look at pagination; more status updates to come.

@BananaMonkey: Thanks for reporting this, it is most certainly a bug! We're working on a fix now, along with adding the ability to filter results by blog.

I thought I'd add my comment here instead of starting a new thread.

Could we please get more than ten results on the "Recently Commented On" tab? In fact could it we just get unlimited results? I'd like to be able to catch up with Talk even when I can't come here a for a day or two.

@BananaMonkey, try those Search Results again! We've added the pagination of free-text search, as well as the ability to "localize" your search results to one blog.
