Pot boiled dry
I let a pot of boiling water get away from me, and it boiled dry. Now the bottom of the pot (it's stainless steel) is a dark brown/blackish color. Any hope of rescue? I have seen suggestions to use lemon juice, baking soda, Barkeeper's Friend, etc....what do you guys think?
Also, If I can manage to clean it, will it affect future cooking or flavor?

I hate to admit it, but this has happened to me multiple times (usually my boyfriend's fault).
In all instances, I've managed to use just steel wool and soap on the stainless steel to get rid of almost all of the staining. The bottoms of the pot are still a little brown/black, but the inside is okay and seems to get better with each use/wash. I haven't noticed any affects on taste!
I don't know how bad your staining is, but I would try scrubbing-- and the Barkeeper's Friend isn't a bad idea either. You'll probably be able to tell pretty soon if you'll be able to rescue it!

Bar Keeper's Friend would be my first scrubbing thing to try, but soak the pan with some baking soad and hot water for about an hour first.
Good luck.

Boil salt water in the pan for about ten minutes, let it cool completely and then try scrubbing it with soap.

Can I join the club? If my daughter-in-law hadn't reminded me, I would've done it again yesterday. Ditto what everyone else wrote. After scrubbing, scouring or boiling it and then using it a couple of times, the stain will disappear.
