Pork Roll/Taylor Ham
Hello everyone, I just started working in Midtown and was wondering if anyone knew where I could get a Pork Roll, Egg & Cheese sandwich around here.
Thanks!

Slaters deli in Leonardo NJ has the best pork roll sandwich I have ever had.

@flegs: Where in Midtown? Offhand I do know a place that carries pork roll/Taylor Ham. It's not really Midtown, but it should be easy enough to get to if you're near the 1 or any train that goes to Eighth Ave./Penn Station.
There's a deli on Eighth Avenue between 28th and 29th Streets (on the east side of the street) that has it.

Wish I could find porkroll ANYWHERE in NYC...will have to try the place on 8th ave...supposedly Big Nick's on the UWS makes porkroll sandwhiches...otherwise, you will have to get it in a supermarket and make it yourself. which defeats the purpose.

I love Taylor Ham and haven't seen it since I was in Florida visiting. It was the Boar's head brand taylor ham wrapped in that brown netting...I brought a nice hunk of it back to NY...I wish I could find it here..
Question to anyone? Is pork roll the same as Taylor ham?

@flegs--A relative just told me that Murray's Cheese Shop has it-they have locations all around Manhattan....I believe one of Murray's location caters more towards meats...I have to check this out myself....

IMO NJ is the home of pork roll... I think you can order it online if you're desperate for a fix.

Thanks everyone! i work by Rockefeller Center so all your suggestions might be too far away.

There are standing requests to smuggle Trenton Taylor Ham up to CT for my Sis. Nothing else like it. I prefer thinly sliced and crispy pan fried. Don't forget to slit the edges so it fries flat. A bit of cheese, poached eggs & bread optional.

google is still working.

Some supermarkets in Florida carry it because of the heavy northeast population - but funny enough, I can't remember a single place in NYC that might have it. Get on your walking shoes...

I haven't been there since last year, but D&S Market on 56th between 5th and 6th used to have taylor ham in the mornings. They don't list it on their menu but one day I was standing next to a man who ordered it (obviously he was in the know) and I immediately regretted my bacon choice on my breakfast sandwich. Good luck!

thanks kates! i may have to check it out tomorrow morning!

I hope they still have it. I've just moved to Georgia and I'm already in withdrawal!!

I just did a story on this on my breakfast blog back in August. You can find taylor ham in Midtown at Starlite Deli on West 44th Street (btw. Broadway & 8th Ave) a few doors down from Carmine's. The guys behind the counter take the full pork roll/taylor ham out and will deli slice it for you on the spot.

Just think how hard it is to get Taylor's in GA when it is made in NJ. I have found it at a Publix in North Georgia...Next search try to find Scrapple in the South???

thank you breakfast_fool! i also have confirmed that D&S Market referenced by kates still does in fact carry pork roll also. My mornings just got a little bit better.
