OK to freeze homemade cookie dough?
I'm assuming it is since you can buy frozen cookie dough in stores. I've never had the need to freeze homemade cookie dough and just wanted to double check. Thanks all you serious eaters!

Yes, absolutely you can. Just get a portion scoop, line your sheet pan with parchment, scoop the cookies, and freeze them. Once they're frozen, you can put them in a ziploc bag.

I freeze them all the time: in addition to the suggestion above, you can roll them up (like a snake? bowling pin size?) and double wrap them in plastic wrap. Sometimes for square cookies I line a bread pan/empty plastic wrap container with plastic wrap then wedge the cookie dough in and wrap it all up. When you're ready no need to defrost, just slice and bake away!
Note: plastic wrap and/or foil + freezer bags are your friend. they will keep weird smells from permeating into your cookies!

Yup, no problem at all. You can do as beth 1 does with frozen scoops or freeze it in a log and slice off as needed. My mom found that this was terrific for portion control for my dad--he's the guy that would eat 7 or 8 cookies at a time, and a batch of cookies would last 2-3 days--and now that he's diabetic he really has to watch it, so mom just slices off enough for 4 cookies once a week.

I do it a lot during the holidays, but make sure that you don't let anyone know it is in the freezer, because it may disappear before you have a chance to bake it and give away as gifts.

I freeze chocolate chip cookie dough every time I make it. I have to keep a lot on hand for friends and family, so I usually make about 12 pounds of dough at a time, and will portion it out into 2 ounce balls, layer in wax paper, and place in freezer bags. I like to age the dough in the fridge for 2 days before I freeze it though. The cookies always turn out perfectly, and I have never had any problems with quality.

A word of advice. You can freeze either in logs or in balls, but think about what kind of dough you have before making a determination.
Plain cookies (sugar, peanut butter, etc) are just fine in logs. Things with chunks (choc chip, nuts, etc) do much better in balls. It's frustratingly difficult to try to cut reasonably similar cookies off a log when you keep running into solid pieces.
