Montreal - L'Express ou Garde Manger?
I know we touched on this earlier in the summer but I totally can't find the thread. Garde Manger is supposed to be wonderful but most of the well-touted menu items are seafood/fish based and I don't eat either. I've had quite a few high recommendations for L'Express being "THE" bistro that epitomizes Montreal eating. We already have reservations at Au Pied de Cochon for the husband's 30th, but need to make a decision about Sunday's dinner fast.
Which would you choose? Or would chuck both of those aside and go to Kitchen Galerie? Help!

Garde-Manger and L'Express are two very different animals. The former is young and trendy, serves fancy comfort food, and turns into a club after dinner time. The latter is a very, very Parisian brasserie/bistro that feels more like France than Montreal.
If you're already going to Au Pied De Cochon you might find Garde-Manger too similar of a place foodwise. If you want to eat in a bistro, you should consider Leméac instead of L'Express. The food at Leméac is a notch above L'Express and the whole experience is more pleasant.
Kitchen Gallerie is more like APDC and Garde-Manger. These places are much more North-American and therefore much more Montreal than places like L'Express or Leméac. Those places are French restaurants.

L'Express has one of the best fries I ever had, and the mayo sauce they serve is out of this world.
Kithchen Galerie has two amazing things about it: 1) The chefs/waiters/sommeliers. The small team does everything and are very friendly and helpful. They really make sure you enjoy your time there. 2) Using local ingredients from teh nearby market. That way, the menu changes daily and you get the freshest ingredients.
I'd start with L'Express as my first restaurant I go to in Montreal for a nice lunch. Then for dinner, head to Kitchen Galerie.

Hrm. I think I like that idea. LExpress for lunch and Kitchen Galerie for dinner.
Good to know that APDC and Garde Manger together would be redundant... though I have to laugh since we usually get dinner res two nights in a row at APDC when we are in town. Haha.

My sister and brother visited Garde Manger a couple of years ago and they loved it.
