Log In????
Don't know why I have to log in everytime I visit the SE site. Is this a glitch from yesterday's problems? Anyone else experiencing this? It's not really a big deal, just a minor annoyance.

I had to log in twice each time I come to this site. The page doesn't read "Hello QueenAlli until I sign in twice.
QueenAlli at 6:20PM on 09/28/09
Experienced the weird log in problems, sent the team an email. They said they noticed the problem and are working on it.
It's already better than it was yesterday, seeing as I couldn't sign in at all yesterday.
I'm still seeing the same thing QueenAlli is seeing though.

This is very discouraging and I hope that they can figure out what is happening. I have to go to log in each time and ask for my password each time before I see my name pop up and that takes some time. You will notice there is very little activity in the talk area and you can't comment on the staff's posting unless you go through with this each and every time. I really want to stay in touch with this community, but sometimes i have only a moment to check in.

Same here. It's very irritating. I sent a message to the team, too. This morning, I signed in, skimmed through some topics on home, clicked onto talk, got another cup of coffee, added a comment, but when I clicked to post it, a page came up that said I couldn't because I wasn't logged in. But if I wasn't logged in, I couldn't add the comment, right?
If it ain't broke. . .(all caps). (* _*)

i'm also noticing that when you click on the talk page, the numbers of comments listed next to a talk topic aren't being updated in real time (ish) anymore. There's a big lag and looks as though no one has commented in many places when in fact there are responses. Sad to miss out on great convos.

same here. annoying. when I'm not logged in automatically it makes me less likely to comment.
laurelie at 8:10PM on 09/28/09
Yep, same here. New site blows.
Garvey at 8:48PM on 09/28/09
@Garvey: Have some patience eh? They're changing things for the better, and all changes come with things that need adjusting or fixing. It's not like they intend the glitches to be the new face of SE or anything.
The SE team responds extremely well and quickly to user concerns and questions, so I think we should consider ourselves lucky that the team is so dedicated.

Yes, me too. And I have to refresh the screen in order for the comment field to appear.

Apologies for the frustrating experience, and believe me when I say I feel your pain! We've been working hard to resolve these issues and things should be working pretty smoothly now.
Our site cookie has changed, which can contribute to some of the problems you all are describing. It would be a good idea to take the following steps if you are having trouble with login:
- If you appear to be logged into Serious Eats, log out
- Delete any Serious Eats cookies (here's how to delete cookies)
- Log back into Serious Eats
If you have verified that you are logged into Serious Eats (you have the "Hello" greeting in the log in box), but you don't see a comment field, refresh the page and it should appear.
If you've tried all of the above and are still having trouble, send me an email at support@seriouseats.com and I'll be happy to help you.

It seems to be a common problem. And I know that the staff is working on getting it all fixed. It's not a huge deal, so just wait on it. The fact that people are freaking out about this.. goes to show that we're all Serious Eats junkies. :] ("OMG must comment!! why cant i get in? waaaaaaaa") I started to freak out myself. And then i was like... whoa... seriously.. gotta tone it down a bit.
engmcmuffin at 9:32PM on 09/28/09
@fuuchan, @engmcmuffin - Very much agreed. A little bit of patience, all, please.
@Alaina and the SE team, thank you for your quick response to our tech problems and concerns, and for continuing to keep the site both updated and upgraded.
lillibet at 11:36PM on 09/28/09
Alaina, et al: @engmuffin described me exactly. I'm a junkie! I'm hooked on SE and I got it bad. I just hope you don't get stuck giving me my daily fix.
betteirene at 2:55AM on 09/29/09
Alaina - couldn't figure out how to delete just my serious eats cookies when I went to the site, but at the moment I'm logged in successfully. I figure that yes, it was frustrating, but a reminder of how much it means to me to be involved in the give and take here, so it wasn't entirely a bad thing. :^)
lemonfair at 5:25AM on 09/29/09
They'll fix things! It's not the end of the world peeps.
arm1970 at 7:13AM on 09/29/09
@bessfour, we identified the problem and it should be fixed now. Can you (and everybody else on this thread!) let me know if there are any more issues with it?
sixapart at 4:16PM on 09/29/09
I'm still having problem loging in.
I have cleared all the cookies and still when I want to log in I have to do it twice.
thanks

Everything's looking peachy so far. Was able to log in without a problem today. Haven't noticed any other wonkiness around the site although I will take a peek and a prod at other features.
It remains to be seen whether I'll remain logged in later today, though.
