Inexpensive restaurant suggestions for Saturday ...

I have out of towners coming for a visit and they would like to go to Doughnut Plant. (LES- Grand Avenue, NYC) They would also like to try a restaurant, not too expensive, within walking distance. A sizable walking distance is fine too. I am not too familiar with that area. Any suggestions would be welcome. We can eat anything from mainstream hamburgers, pizza, to ethnic foods & beyond...nothing is off limits.. We're an adventurous bunch...thanks!!

Since you'll be in Chinatown, I think you should just take in the local flavor and check out the following suggestions. All of the restaurants are definitely cheap and DELICIOUS! Congee Village and Congee Bowery both serve top notch food while Vanessa's is a local favorite serving super cheap dishes like 4 dumplings for a dollar and other miraculous deals. They all have a nice atmosphere - even Vanessa's!

Congee Village ($10 and under per person)

Mmm, Doughnut Plant...

Pho Grand is also on Grand Street, about a 10 min walk away: Yelp: Pho Grand

i just went macondo last weekend, that was pretty fun for a group - good small plate food based on latin american street food. also tasty drinks (i like the taramind cocktail the best). not expensive.

i love doughnut plant!

NB: Make sure Doughnut Plant is open when you want to go. They're open Tuesday - Sunday from 6:30am until sold out. Located on Grand STREET not Grand Avenue. Grand Avenue is in Queens.

Also they sell out of flavors towards the afternoon, so earlier is better (you didn't say if this was for lunch or dinner and on what day).

New Malaysia! It has the added mystique of being inside one of those Chinatown mall thingies. And cheap! But if you go, don't get the roti canai. Everything else I've tried there is great, but the roti appears to be of the pre-made and re-heated variety.

I wish I could suggest Palacinka. But, alas! she is no more. I still haven't gotten over that shuttering.

I have lots of good ideas thanks to everyone's wonderful suggestions..thanks so very much..

@kathryn-You're right-I stand corrected, I meant Grand Street..This is for Saturday as stated in the thread & early afternoon

I appreciate everyone's input....

@semarr - I missed Palacinka as well. I went there for my birthday a few years ago. The crepes weren't "the" best, but I still had a nice meal there.

Check out Spina if you like handmade pasta.

Ditto Vanessa's! Mmmmmm....

Other ideas here. Most of these would be within a long stroll of the LES!
