I am already missing tomatoes!

Hubby and I grow cherry tomatoes, medium sized tomatoes(my personal fav) and beef steak tomatoes

Just made my last caprese of the season.

So sad! Will anyone else miss the end of the summer in this way?
Remember, I'm from Philly, so the best tomatoes in the world are over the bridge in NJ!

I so feel your pain! I am from the Jersey Shore area and I celebrate the beginning of tomato season and mourn its end! The farm market by me still has local tomatoes - but not for long :(

I am west of you in Chester Co. and I bought a huge bag of tomatoes today to make my last batch of gazpacho. I have made at least 3 batches of it each week since tomatoes came in. (Can't freeze it.) I think I will have a ceremony or moment of silence when I serve this last batch.

I think I planted mine too late, the plants are over 3 feet tall now and the entire year only 1 tomato popped up, lots of flowers, 1 tomato. The single tomato was then, when nearly ripe, dive bombed by a crow leaving a nice big hole in it. Within hours the hole had been discovered by ants and my years crop was ruined thusly.

But hey, my jalapenos are coming in by the dozen right now!

I am in west and am still have tomatoes growing, and I am loving it.

@AyeEat--ours went in late this year also. It was too cold and too wet here in philly to plant anything. Squirrels got to my plants.

At least jalepenos leave you with great mexican fare! Enjoy!

it wasn't the best season for the old tomatoes .... i've been seeing lots of tomatoes though, good deals on canning tomatoes..... i've got to start putting some away -- though i'm a little nervous about so much fungicide being sprayed on them because of the blight. i hear soaking in vinegar water helps loosen up that crap.

my cherries have just a few days to go, and I'm very sad. the sun golds survived the blight when practically nothing else did. They're also my earliest tomato. early July from seeds I start mid-March.

After success making plum jam, I bought several quarts of berries at my farmers market yesterday to make jams for the winter so that there is something to look forward to.

Maybe I should try canning tomato sauce too...

@yayfood - there's nothing like popping a jar of garden tomato sauce in january .... don't forget the spring of basil.... that's the best aroma of all....
i hope i have time to do some next week.....

*sheds a tear for the departure of tomato season*

Definitely going to miss tomatoes, especially because I just discovered my grilled tomato pasta sauce recipe! Boo.
