Honeycrisps Are Here!

I ate my first honeycrisp of the season today! Found them in a local grocery store in Astoria. That's right....fall is officially upon us.

Hurray for honeycrisps!

Those are my favs! I'm so excited to eat them!

I'm glad I'm not the only one rejoicing the return of the honeycrisp! LOVE THEM!

I'm a Honeycrisp fanatic too. I got some last week at Wegmans (at $2 a pound!!!! jeez!) making it officially fall, indeed.

Same here. If any of you out there haven't tried a honey crisp, they're worth the premium.

My heart belongs to Galas - but can one cook with Honeycrisps or are they just an obviously-loved eating apple?

I've tried them, and am probably the one person who wasn't won over. I thought they were a little bit too sweet and watery, at least from the 'barrel' I tried. Apples are not my favorite fruit, but when I do eat them, I like Pink Ladies the best, followed by Fujis.

@chiff--I don't think they'd be unusable, like a Red Delicious in cooking (which is really watery and bland) but I've never seen them recommended in a recipe, like you sometimes see suggestions for different combos of tart/sweet applies to suit a particular dessert.

I've been waiting anxiously for them but haven't seen them yet down here in Georgia...has anyone else? My daughter keeps saying "Mom, don't forget the Honeycrisps!" every time I go shopping, and she's always disappointed when I get home Honeycrispless.

I use them for everything while they are around. We dont have them yet, but I am watching.

I use them for everything as well. I do have to say that the crop of Honeycrisps we got in Seattle two years ago was sub-par compared to their usual taste, so if you didn't love the ones you had, you should try them again!

I have a honeycrisp tree in my backyard. This is it's first year to produce apples and they are wonderful! The only way I have cooked them is to make applesauce and it was pretty tastly.

I'm a big fan of Macouns

The variety of apple types is bewildering. I like to make my own apple pies, cobbler, applesauce, and baked apples. I use Granny Smiths for the pies and cobbler, add in some Golden Delicious for the applesauce, and usually select Empire or Cortland apples for baking.
Would like some suggestions on other varieties, and which is best for what.
