Good wine for a beer drinker?

I like beer. No... I love beer. It makes my happy. Once a week we have a themed dinner party with some friends of ours and this week the theme is France. I am making a Grilled Seafood Nicoise and Seared Scallops with roasted asparagus in a Beurre blanc sauce. What wine goes with this? I like IPAs and any full flavored beer… Any ideas on a French wine that is easy to find and I might enjoy?

I would look towards a sancerre or a brut/extra brut champagne or sparkling wine! I would also consider a white burgundy (chardonnay) that saw some time in oak. The oak and smoke will pair well with the grilled flavors in the dishes.

vinho verde! a little bubbly, and low alcohol.

Oops, sorry. I read the title but not the description. Vinho verde is Portuguese. Try a Vouvray.

Vouvray is a good starter wine, because it's sweet. If you don't care for sweet try a sancerre or chenin blanc. I do think a Chardonnay would be somewhat similar to beer (its so common, have you tried it?)

Be careful with the asparagus - it often does not pair well with wine (same with artichokes), you may be ok with a Sauvignon Blanc. For the Nicoise, see if you can find a French rose. You might also want to consider a dry sherry, like a Manzanilla or a Fino.

Thanks everyone. Headed to the wine store now...

Another Beer-addict here!

Funny this subject is up: I'm dating a guy right now (not much of a foodie) but we both love brewskis.

For his birthday I wanted to surprise him with a meal and drinks and wine would be nice and special. I'm leaning towards picking up a really nice pack of imports but perhaps I'll pick up a bottle of sparkling and see if he likes it....:D

I know I'm late on this thread, however, my hubbie is a HUGE beer lover.
I mean he will order 3 beers @ a time to see if he lkes the new micro-brew and import versus his fav. Won't finish what doesn't measure up to his standards though.

That having been said, he is not a big wine fan; I am. What he does enjoy
are reislings, and Carl Rossi chianti, yeah, the cheap one in the jug. A jug that is cheaper than most BOTTLES, not even 6 packs, yes, bottles of beer he brings home..
