For KitchenAid fans: An NPR segment
For those obsessed with KitchenAids (I don't have one, but perhaps someday...) this segment is full of humor and fun facts, like the fact they date back to 1919 and the original would have cost something like $2,000 in today's inflation-adjusted dollars

Awesome lady! Thanks! I'm hoping to get my first (fingers crossed) next weekend. Any ideas for what to make in it first??

Heard it on Monday. You should try to get one asap. I bought my first in my 20's when I was totally broke and just getting by. I saw an ad in the Target circular for a $169 sale on the Classic model. I got right in the car. It was so worth it. I ate pretty lean for a couple of weeks, but I was very happy. I have upgraded since. They are so worth sacrificing for.

My boyfriend got me one for this past birthday, and I don't know how I ever lived without it. I don't even have electric beaters. The first thing I made it in was a chocolate orange angel food cake--all those whipped egg whites!

First thing I made in mine was the white cake in the book that came with the mixer. Second thing was the buttercream frosting in the book.
The most recent thing I made was the chocolate stout cake in the most recent Bon Apetit.

When most of our city was evacuating in advance of Hurricane Rita a few years ago, my sister loaded up her KitchenAid mixer first, while others were scrambling to stow photo memories, insurance papers, jewelry, and pets in their cars! I know how she feels, I love my red one.
