Food stops from MD to the Outer Banks
I will be going to the Outer Banks for the first time in two weeks and was looking for any recommendations for food along the way. Considering it will be roughly 8 hours we'll probably be stopping for either two meals or 3 or 4 quick bites. I was considering Ben's Chili Bowl for a half-smoke or maybe Coal Fire Pizza in Ellicott City.
What I would really love is some good Carolina barbecue but I haven't had any luck finding decent spots along the way. Any recommendations? Doing a quick route via google maps it looks like we'll be skirting Baltimore, D.C., Richmond, and Norfolk before crossing into eastern N.C.
Thanks for your help.

Try Roadfood.com by the Sterns. We have always had great eating with their choices.

I know you said you're skirting Baltimore, but if you change your mind, Faidley's at Lexington Market has the best lump crab cakes I've ever tasted. Seriously life changing to the point that I have been spoiled for crab cakes anywhere else. Only enough breading to hold it together so it's mostly meat, all of which is leg meat and it's perfectly spiced.

Have a great time in the outer banks! I recomend Pigman's in nags head for really good bbq.
