Figs & ____ Beer?

Hello SE'ers!

Tonight I am making a calzone with figs and goat cheese, and beer in the pizza dough! Also will probably make a fig compote for the sauce.

I'm having trouble figuring out what type of beer to use...any suggestions?

I think Guinness would be nice

I think Guinness is always nice, if not mandatory. In this case it might lend itself nicely to the figs and goat cheese strong flavors.

On the other hand, you may want to go for a lighter flavor and let the figs and goat cheese balance out, perhaps a wheat beer. But don't forget to have a Guinness or three to help you out during the enjoyment phase of the calzone!

chimay or gueuze would both be really great pairings for figs

Depends on the type of fig - i.e. Calmyrna, Mission. Perhaps Chimay Tripel would be a good general choice. . .

Samuel Smith Nut Brown Ale. It kind of reminds me of sherry.

Something malty but medium. Nut brown is a great suggestion Amanda.

Duchesse de Bourgogne is an amazing beer that seems to pair well with all sorts of food. Floral fruity fizzy and at the same time light yet rich. Delicious.

Something Belgian, for sure.

Chimay or Leffe Blonde

"Fat Tire" - best beer I've ever drank and goes with anything.
