Do you go simple or complicated for your tailgate?
As I am a big time tailgater (can't wait for football season!) I am always looking for unique recipes.
I just stumbled accross this website: www.simpletailgating.com
A lot of the recipes look really good. Some seem to be very easy to make, some seem a little more complicated.
Which got me to wondering when it comes to recipes for home or for a party... do we as cooks prefer simple or a little more effort in which we reap the rewards?

For tailgaiting we always do a brat fry.
The simmering beer and butter to finish off the cooked brats always draws attention by the smell. We even drew a former Superbowl player (he showed us his ring) over to our grill after the UF/UG game in Jacksonville by the aroma of our bratfry. Older gentleman, played in one of the first Superbowls. I can't remember his name, but do recall at the time, around 2002, his son was playing for the Gators.
For home events I go much more complex. I love preppering and fixing over several days, only to have it all come together for the party.

We always do a low country boil for one game and a catfish fry for another. We do soups, stews and chili for a game late in the season. Some of the best are when people bring whatever they feel like and we just have a smorgasbord.

i don't throw any, but the one i go to is awesome.
each season they print a huge menu of what they're going to make each week & if you stop by it's 5 for food and and extra 5 if you want beer.
it's so worth it because they really do it right and create such a delicious variety.
they've been at it in the same spot for 40+ years

depends on the weather. the nicer the weather, the more complicated it gets. Middle of October in the Meadowlands parking lot, steak, shrimp, slab bacon, and some sides. Middle of December 2 pre-seasoned rib eyes and a side or two.

I go "delicious" for tailgating. I'll do a couple of standbys like freshly made guacamole and salsa - and shimp cocktail. I'm realizing now that most of my tailgating happens at rock shows, not football so it's cold food.
I love the idea of marinated BBQ food and a couple of sides to go with. I can't imagine what it's like to try and tailgate in Green Bay!

we tend to go somewhere in between. i love to cook and love to organize parties, but most of the guys would be happy as long as there's something on the grill and a cooler full of beer. this weekend it's all-american - burgers and brats, potato salad, chips and dip, basic desserts. for a big game in a few weeks, it's a fiesta - slice up grilled chicken and flank steak for tacos, homemade guac and salsa, etc. the last home game of the year is always chili and other warm stuff.
