Apple cider raisin bread--It smells and tastes like Fall.
Last year I made apple cider raisin bread. The kids loved it toasted and used for French toast. My husband really liked it when I used it for a grilled ham and cheddar sandwich. I was thinking of mixing it up a bit and adding dried cranberries or dried cherries instead of raisins. I was thinking the cranberries would add some terrific tartness and also would make a great grilled turkey sandwich. What do you guys think?

That bread sounds good just the way it is. If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

I think I want this recipe! Care to share it?

I'm not sure cranberries or cherries would go as well as raisins with the apple cider bread. Though dried cherries are pretty delicious. I also have had bread with tiny chopped up pieces of dried apple in it. Dried apple pieces mixed with raisins might be tasty.
And I agree with moibec...this sounds far too tempting without telling us how to make it!

My recipe for raisin bread calls for three cups of raisins. When I first started making it 25 years ago, I used straight raisins. Then I did a mix of raisins, golden raisins and red raisins. Every now and then, I'd toss in dried cranberries and chopped dried cherries, and I've used apricots, figs, dates, mango, papaya and pineapple. They all worked, some better than others at making a good but not great bread. Now, I think our favorite combination is a cup each of raisins, golden raisins and dried cranberries. The cherries didn't add much flavor to the dough as I thought they would. The cranberries add a lot of flavor and zing, but using all cranberries was a bit much. Have fun with it--I'm sure your family will love the taste tests.

Anything to get rid of the raisins!
I was sure my feelings towards those vile fruits were going to be echoed in this thread, as I first read the title as "It smells and tastes like FAIL." Imagine my disappointment...

Here's the recipe. I don't make it in a bread machine--I use my Kitchen Aid mixer instead.

@Pointy I'm serious.
Apple cider: We're cool. I've got no problems with you. You are a welcome addition to almost any dish.
Raisins: Why ruin perfectly good grapes? Seriously.
