What's for Dinner? 08/26

Hi all.

Being somewhat new to the forum, I am unsure if there is a similar topic elsewhere. If there is one, I hope the moderators choose to merge this with that or feel free to delete the topic.

On other food forums I visit this topic tends to be popular. As I don't see a way of bumping older topics, I figure a new What's for Dinner topic each day would be the way to handle it here on Serious Eats.

So, what is your plan for dinner tonight?

I have some planned over cooked chicken from a roasted whole bird. Tonight I'll freeze the carcass for future stock and use the meat in a chicken cheese lasagna. I'll serve some sauteed escarole on the side.

I haven't fully decided yet, since it's just me tonight with a giant fridge stocked with my CSA goodies. I think I'll start with a salad of whatever lettuce they gave me, a cucumber and some leftover mixed peppers that I cut up the other day. I might as well throw on some carrots and celery for good measure. Then I'll probably just eat the batter or dough of whatever dessert I plan to make with the two pints of fresh strawberries that I got over the weekend. I'm not sure what to do with them yet!

Taco salad.

(Brown ground beef with spices, make a huge salad with all the veggies in the fridge- cukes, tomatoes, greens, olives - add dollops of sour cream and salsa, and top with shredded Jack cheese and crumbled taco chips. For sides, slices of honeydew and watermelon.)

fried boudin balls as an appetizer followed by white beans/shrimp stew with large slabs of toasted garlic french bread. shrimp in south louisiana are the cheapest i've seen in years. just made a 3 hour roundtrip visit to st. bernard parish and bought 40 lbs of 15-20 count shrimp for $2.00 a pound.

shoulder lamb chops, patty pan squash from the garden, sliced tomatoes also from the garden.

@Gator Pam - Hi! we usually point people to older existing threads if it's a straight up repeat (in addition to just answering the question), but this one pops up fairly regularly, and I notice that it's probably the most well-received repeat topic since our answers are usually different every time and it's a great way to get seasonal ideas. So, no worries!

Tonight at my house: beercan chicken and grilled pink & purple potatoes. Note to self: buy beer on the way home :P

Couscous salad with sliced kalamatas, crumbled goat cheese, wilted fresh baby spinach, diced tomatoes, fresh parsley and a fresh lemon dressing :)

@meem21: two pints of fresh ones? lucky! I eat'em with fresh whole cream

Hot dogs - it is still summer, after all!

Leftover ham from the night before last, salad and some vegetable, don't know what else.

Cooking/grilling with my dad: Grilled porterhouses, homemade steak sauce, baked beans, and Iceberg wedge salads with plenty of bacon and blue cheese.

Thinking of making carrot cupcakes for dessert.

Storebought quiche with side salad

cooked last night (some great pan roasted chicken leg quarters) --when I'm at school, it's often rare enough that I get remotely close to real cooking.
But for tonight, I'm eating out with a couple girlfriends... restaurant choice is up to me. Havent decided, but for some reason I want to say OUtback. Simply because it's really popular here and I havent eaten at one in years!

does anyone else find outback to be decent? like i said, I don't have a recent opinion--remember it being fairly good.

These leftover baked tomatoes (stuffed with corn, zucchini, black beans, cilantro, lime, etc) and some whole wheat rotini. Probably followed by Haagen Dazs Vanilla Granola Yogurt, which I love with all of my heart!

B/S chicken thighs. Not sure what I'm going to do with them yet. I had wanted to do the roast chicken with peaches, basil and ginger from NYT, but I'm thinking simple crunchy tenders sounds better today. Rice pilaf and corn on the cob for sides, regardless.

I haven't decided yet, so maybe one of you will invite me to your house. So much looks yummy.

@olddad I'm coming to New Orleans and New Iberia in October, so I'll see you then for the boudin balls!

Something from Yankee Stadium... any suggestions? Please no dirty water dogs. My husband has us covered in that department.

Sunday I ground some chuck for burgers and froze the extra. So tonight it's taco salad with the freshly thawed ground chuck. I like Doritos with my taco salad.

I don't know! My partner is out of town on business tonight; won't be home till around 10pm tomorrow night. I can do some "solo cooking"--I'm thinking I may have spaghetti with some good italian tuna, lemon, capers and black pepper. She hates tuna. Or, pasta with sardines and fennel, because she also hates sardines.

Tomorrow night will be eggplant parmiggiant...because she also hates eggplant!

Fingerling potatoes cooked in foil on the grill (then tossed w/ bacon pieces), and Jamie Oliver green beans. So looking forward to it!

I have ribs slow cooking in the oven right now, but I have so much leftovers from going out so much I need to work my way htrough that. BUT I will be going out for a drink later and will see the daily specials on the board that will side track me as usual and I will as usual get take out. This place I go to, it's like a game, I have to go there and see what the daily specials are, they are so creative.

Turkey chili made with tomatoes, poblanos and jalapenos from my deck garden....mmmmmm

Tempted by the Alice Waters carrot soup recently posted, but will probably end up making chicken noodle soup for my poor ill husband. (and really, his gratitude makes it totally worth it, my poor sweetie.) Whatever soup it is, it will be accompanied by a baby tomato salad - I got these amazing tiny "cocktail" tomatoes at the farmers market this morning, and some yellow cherry tomatoes. Drizzle a little olive oil, a dash of basalmic, and it's summer heaven. All with a big loaf of Atwater's bakery Country White bread.

@italiagirl: your planned meals made me smile! how funny you have dubbed those nights for 'your food'! no other way to do that, i don't guess. enjoy while you can!

AH! thats one of my favourites....*jealousy takes over*

i made some homemade pizzas with some stuff from the garden....
tomato, shaved eggplant, fresh mozz, basil; zucchini, roasted garlic, tomato, fresh mozz; pheasant sausage and gruyere ....

I did a BLT with nice thick cut bacon and the only good tomato I've had this year.

Leftover pepper steak stir-fry, greek yogurt with fresh blueberries (and some bits of cookie dough snuck while I baked several dozen sugar cookies).

Pizza and a beer from the restaurant next to work. Sometimes I just need someone else to make dinner for me and today is one of those days.

I haven't felt like doing serious cooking in ages, but I really missed it today so I did some serious cooking. For dinner it was spaghetti carbonara (Tyler Florence's recipe- no cream) and homemade focaccia bread with parm and grape tomatoes. Oh yeah- a side salad too! For dessert: raspberry brownies.
