What Would Brian Boitano Make? Seriously?

I have a big problem with the new Food Network show, What Would Brian Boitano Make. Not only are they ripping off the South Park movie song's title (What Would Brian Boitano Do), which they'll most likely be sued for, I've never heard anything about the guy being a good cook. He's a figure skater. How about devoting a new show to an actual chef? Bob Tuschmann, I'm becoming more and more disappointed in you every day.

I've lost pretty much all interest in The Food Network. I don't know who does their programming, but for those of us not interested in baking cakes, the network just doesn't hold much. An awful lot of uninteresting stuff there now, but I remember when it was blazing.

All those people are gone, alas......................

Has it ever occurred to you that perhaps he's SLEEPING with Bob Tuschman?? LOL

Now ,OMG ,is Brian skating on ice made with filtered water , branch water city water ,natural water, creek water ,ocean water, rain water,Perez Hiltons bath water ? Eeeeee what will he cook with? I'm so excited.

Agree with your view of the current food network, but the fact we haven't heard of Boitano's cooking prowess doesn't mean he doesn't have any. And being famous doesn't mean he can't cook. So I'll check out an episode or two and agree with you then. :-)

As TNFNS would suggest, the problem is finding people who can cook on camera, not finding people who can cook.

How about finding people who can cook good food well, I could care less how much charisma they have.

As for WWBBM? Qui gives a shit!

I generally get disappointed in new Food Network programming. But I'd give this a shot like I'd give any other show a shot (for example the Next Food Network Star winner's show). If he can cook, be informative, and be interesting what does it matter if it's Brian Boitano doing the cooking or some guy name Brian from South Jersey?

Sure it sounds gimmicky like stunt casting (And I'm sure South Park guys got paid for the title) but ultimately the show will fail or succeed based on how it holds viewers. That said my expectations are low.

Totally sick of the Food Network, but I thought the South Park reference was pretty funny. I doubt they would use that title without negotiating the rights with Parker and Stone.

If the show is as cheeky as the title, it could be fun. I'll check it out.

Bring back Gale Gand!!!! And the rest of the originals of the Food Network that relaly made me want to cook! The newer shows just make me want to reheat something in the microwave and call it a day. :(

I haven't watched Food Network in years. I'm sick of the competition shows. And the lack of diversity is disappointing.

Traveller - As Michael Pollan pointed out in his excellent NYTimes Mag article on the Food Network, that's basically what they want you to do. They're interested in people who like to eat, not people who want to cook.

That said, there are still a few worthy programs on during the day, and Alton Brown at night (though it's surely only a matter of time before he's axed)

PBS is showing more food shows, ATK and COOK's Country, for example, and Create TV (PBS) has a bunch of good cooking shows.

I have totally given up on the Food Network. It was my favorite channel for years and I watched it since its inception, but now it is truly unwatchable. I don't even bother checking it anymore to see if something good might be on - because there never is.

I hate it now, too. It used to have great teaching shows--Taste with David Rosengarten was wonderful--but now it seems to be "let's go look at American restaurant food," "Let's open some cans and boxes and dump them in a slow-cooker" or "let's put more butter on it." Alton Brown is the only one I ever watch.

I watch PBS cooking shows now, which are of far better quality than anything on FN.

Sorry for the rant...grrrrr...

Instead of all cake shows, all the time, what about all Alton Brown, all night? I would sign up for that add least!

If BB cooks, great. If he is going through the motions, it's just one more epic failure of TVFN to bring quality cooking shows to the masses.

And they were on a roll with Anne Burrelle and Daisy Martinez!!

Does anyone know what happened? Is it possible that the first stars got too famous that the FN couldn't come up with the contracts that the star chefs wanted to continue. I thought that when you made it to prime time on FN that you wanted to stay there to keep your profile high.

The competition shows are like reality tv on the majors. No high profile people to pay loads of money to. I can't stand the cake competition shows. Watched one and when they went to move it it fell apart. I can't take that kind of pressure and disappointment.

Hey, does anyone from the Food Network actually read this blog? I'd love to know that, I'd love to know if they see what people really think of the dumbed down, moronic, infantile, repetitive programming they serve up. Do they read blogs like this and say "Hey, maybe if we got some "D" lister like Brian Boitano in the kitchen our fans will go berzerk and our ratings will go through the roof. Foodies love snarky gay men cracking wise and making yet again another version of macaroni an cheese." Come on, Food Network, I DARE YOU, come and defend yourselves to your betrayed fans.

"Cake competitions" aren't about cakes. They're about who can make the biggest likeness of Shrek out of Styrofoam and pvc pipe. Where's the cake? Where's the baking skill? Where's Gale Gand? And Brian Boitano - what barrel are they scraping the bottom of now? I thought they hit bottom with Chopped but I guess I was wrong. It's back to PBS for me.

Did anyone watch this? It was actually pretty good - BB was hilarious.

I loved it.

I watched the show and loved it! It's totally different from any cooking show I've ever seen, his recipes looked tasty, and he's incredibly engaging and charismatic.
