what else to do with melons

I have a surplus of melons (cantalopes, honeydew, etc) and it's waaay hot here. What else can I do with them - I'm thinking pureeing in a blender and then.....what? Adding something and freezing them? For a drink, or dessert, or.......?

Any ideas?

Salsa. Melon, jalapeƱos, onion, garlic, cilantro, and lime juice.

i made a yummy tomato-melon gazpacho. agua frescas are also good. margaritas? daquiris?

got proscuitto?

Make infused vodka. Last year I made both cantelope and watermelon infused vodkas. Round about January it was delightful to have a little sip of summer.

Use a small ice cream scoop to make balls and freeze them on a plastic-covered cookie sheet in a single layer. When frozen solid, pile them into a zipper bag and store in the freezer. When you want a slushie, put a few balls in a blender or food processor with some simple syrup or lemonade or orange juice or vodka or Midori or margarita mix and tequila. For sherbet, process the frozen melon balls with some vanilla ice cream or yogurt.

For breakfast smoothie, throw some melon balls in a blender or processor with a banana and a splash of milk.

My friend makes meloncello every summer. Cantaloupe takes exceptionally well to this treatment--it's like sunshine in glass.

Chilled melon soups come to mind.

cantaloupe juice!!!! yum.

Freeze the puree in small batches to use later - add to simple syrup (with herbs to add depth or citrus juice for brightness) for a simple sorbet.

I just made a lovely cold watermelon soup with mint and ginger for a cooking group party that we agreed could do double duty as a beverage base if you diluted it with sparkling water or sparkling wine. My recipe came from the Dallas Morning News, but there was a watermelon punch recipe in the New York Times a week or so ago.

Another dessert idea I've seen is wedges or slices of ice-cold melon topped with a scoop or lemon or other sorbet. And at the same cooking group meeting, one of the guys made "grilled watermelon steak" by salting and peppering thick slices lightly, panfrying (the grill was busy), and drizzling the warm slices with balsamic vinegar. He had a salad with it but several of us thought the watermelon was pretty yummy on its own.

How about a melon salsa? Or certainly a melon sorbet sounds nice.
