Travel Eats
My husband and I are traveling to Maine (for the fifth or sixth time) by way of Buffalo, NY, Lake Placid, Vermont and then on to Maine. No real plan except we have room reservations in Lake Placid for one night. Where to eat in Buffalo or anywhere else along the way??? We love all ethnic foods.

In the Buffalo area, Ted's Hot Dogs. Been around since the 20s I think. Great place. Also, Suzy Qs BBQ. They actually smoke the meat and let you dress it yourself (as in they don't drown it in sauce). Planning to go there for dinner on my birthday (Friday) since we are heading through town to help the husband's brother photograph a rodeo.

If you're passing through Stowe, Vermont, I recommend:
Cold Hollow Cider Mill for great cider donuts, and lots of great locally made products from Vermont.
The Cabot Annex for local wines and cheeses - not just Cabot (although they have all of the Cabot cheddars out to taste), but also a great variety of local artisan cheese from Blythedale, Jasper Hill, etc.
The Trapp Family Lodge tea room has wonderful view of the mountains and is a good place if you're in the mood for Austrian food.
Paulines in South Burlington on route 7 is fantastic too, most items are made with fresh local organic ingredients.

If you are going to be anywhere near, take a detour to Rainbow Sweets bakery in Marshfield Vt. It is phenomenal. Her are 2 articles about the place though neither of them quite portray the gregariousness of the owner. He is a natural born salesman so it might get pricey. We had the b'stilla, empanada, spanakopita, johnny depps on a plate & took several things to go. On friday & saturday evenings he does pizza. Just go with the flow because its a great show. Its the best meal I've had in Vermont so far.
