Thai Basil

I have a beautiful Thai Basil I grew this summer, and have yet to use it. (Constantly using my sweet basil) Wonder how a pesto would be with this? Any suggestions? I'll google, but thought I'd see what some of you come up with.

It's a lot more pungent than sweet basil. I'd make a smal test batch before going gonzo with it.

That would be kind of fun to do a vietnamese style pesto! Peanuts, fish sauce, soy, sugar, chili paste, oil and tons of thai basil. I'd probably go easier on the peanuts than in the usual pesto since I'd be cautious not to overwhelm the other flavors and make it a peanut sauce.

I used it last night in a Pa-Na Chicken. Sauteed chicken with red curry paste, coconut milk , Thai basil, red and green peppers. Serve over rice.

Yum

I use it in a stirfry that I make with chicken or pork tenderloin. Brown meat (~1lb) in pan, add about 2Tb cooking sherry. Cook to evaporate the liquid, add 1-2 tsp soy sauce, remove from heat and set aside. Clean out pan and heat about 2tsp oil. Add minced garlic and fresh ginger, saute for 30 seconds. Add 1 sliced jalapeno (optional). Return meat to pan, add 3Tb of chili bean sauce (Lee Kum Kee makes a decent one). Season with salt and pepper, if needed. Add 1 handful of thai basil leaves. Stir until basil is wilted. Serve hot with rice.

Thanks for the input. They sound great. @bigfatmouth. Thought about the asian style pesto, will have to try your suggestions. Have all the ingredients already.

I am so jealous! Send me some!

Seriously, try this:

I made it (sans fried egg) and we loved it, but I would have killed for Thai basil instead of sweet.

Just make any Thai curry or stir fry and use that beautiful basil!
