Speaking of Curry Hill: Good Non-Veg Indian Food in Manhattan?

The only place I've gone to for a nice Indian food dinner is Vatan, which I love, but is also vegetarian.

I need a recommendation for a non-vegetarian Indian food place for dinner. Preferably not as expensive at Vatan. Would like to be able to walk away with paying less than $35 a person. (Including drink, tax, tip.)

Anybody have any recommendations?

Thanks in advance!

Oops. I probably should have posted this in New York!

I'm not sure about the price, but Chola on the East Side (in the high 50's...I want to say 58th) is excellent. They have a fantastic lunch buffet, bring you fresh naan and chaat and all things delicious. That restaurant group owns a lot of places, so if Chola is too pricey, maybe another one will work for you?

Thanks for the rec! I also found this post which is very useful:

I think Banjara will probably end up being the spot.

Last week I visited Bhatti Indian Grill on Lexington and 27th (the space where Cardamom used to be) and I liked it very much. At the moment, it's BYOB.

They were out of the Gilauti Kebabs, so I'll have to try those some other time, but my friend and I had a cauliflower dish, a Keralan tilapia curry (Meen Moilley) and a Chicken Korma, which were great. Breads were well made. We paid $30 each including tip.

Vatan is definitely not a good indication of other Indian restaurants since it's vegetarian Gujurati Indian food, which is pretty distinct You should try Chennai Garden in Curry Hill for good vegetarian South Indian food.

While I can't speak to the meat (since I'm vegetarian), Bukhara Grill in midtown east is always a hit, and I think they have pretty large non-veg selection which seems to be hit - although it's pricey...but well worth it. I would also second Chola.

chola is good. i also like amma for lunch (also in midtown), cafe spice for delivery (village area, it's cheaper), taramind for a more formal dining experience (a little more expensive, flatiron), surya - all around good (west village), and lassi for snacks - lassi is unfortunately closing.
