South Brooklynites--Question

Hi all,

Question for any of you who live in Carroll G, the Hook, Boerum Hill, Cobble Hill, the Slope, Gowanus, ProHo, etc...

Where do you go to buy cooking supplies--do you go up to Whisk or Brooklyn Kitchen in the Burg? Or to the city?

Curious to know where you go!

I'm in Bushwick so not the right neighborhood...but I go to Brooklyn Kitchen. I've been to Whisk a few times, and while it's big and seems packed with stuff, I find that most of it is nothing I need (though I did buy a cherry pitter there once with BK was out of them). Brooklyn Kitchen is well-curated and the staff is really knowledgeable. Otherwise, I try to stock up at the Broadway Panhandler sales.

I'm in Park Slope. I have most of what I need, but if there's something I need last-minute, I usually end up at Tarzian West on Seventh Avenue and 2nd Street. It's the closest kitchen-supply store to my apartment, but it's a bit pricey. Usually I do comparison shopping online or via phone calls and end up going wherever an item I need is cheapest, whether that's B'way Panhandler, Macy's Cellar, Williams-Sonoma (rare), or wherever. I love Brooklyn Kitchen, but it's a real haul to get to Williamsburg unless I'm already there for something else—and I'm usually there after BK has already closed.

@producestories - not related to the topic - but i grew up in bushwick!
a tough and tender place if there ever was one.....

The city's much cheaper, but if I want to stay in Brooklyn I like Cook's Companion on Atlantic. Plus it's right next to Sahadi's and Damascus Bakery, so I can pick up a slice of baklava on my way home :)

I second Cook's Companion on Atlantic.

I third Cook's Companion as well. I've compared prices to Bed, Bath and Sur la Table and they're even a bit cheaper. To boot the staff is nice. Oh, and I believe they have an impressive Labor Day sale.
