Plan my vacation!

Here's the route- Milwaukee --> Chicago --> Cleveland --> Niagara Falls --> Washington DC.

Any great suggestions on where to eat? We have some, but always are looking for something cool to see and eat.

In DC, I had a great experience at Bistro Bis, a pretty damn good experience at Art and Soul, and a tasty burger and DELICIOUS shakes at The Good Stuff Eatery.

Bonus - Art and Soul is from Art Smith of Top Chef Masters and Good Stuff Eatery is from Spike of the original Top Chef.

if you're driving, make sure to stop in the Finger Lakes and visit a few wineries!

Where are you staying in Niagara? The Canadian or NY side? We went to a cute B&B on the Canadian side and were served a gourmet breakfast. Yum. We also enjoyed a steakhouse that was in the casino on the Canadian side. I know, I know. But seriously, it was a perfectly cooked steak.

For some reason, the American side of Niagara has a TON of Indian restaurants and food carts. I guess it's because most Indians on work visas can't go to Canada? But it was convenient for my mom and grandma--anyway, they said some of the carts were really good.

Oh in Milwaukee, get Kopp's Frozen Custard, SO YUM. They have butterburgers there too, but I usually focus on the dessert.

Will you be swinging through Pittsburgh on your way from Niagara Falls to DC? If so, you're in for a treat :) Classic Pittsburgh would be Primanti's (great for lunch), Casbah for someplace nicer, Umi for sushi, and DeLuca's in the Strip District for breakfast (can you say greasyspoon eggs benedict? cause I can, and you need an excuse to visit that neighborhood anyways). And since you'll be in DC, Five Guys is a regional burger chain worth checking out if you want to grab a burger during your stay.

In Cleveland, the obvious is Michael Symon's Lola or Lolita. The Greenhouse Tavern owned by Jonathon Sawyer (also owns Bar Cento in Ohio City, was Michael Symon's chef at Lolita). Ooh, or check out the Westside Market in Ohio city (see the website).

We are def planning to hit at least one Mike Symon place, preferably two. Not positive about Pittsburgh, we may swing thru. I doubt we will stay in Niagara, just do a fly-by of the Falls.

Thanks for all the suggestions- If there are any more, keep em coming!

Milwaukee - Sprecher's brewery. The best root beer ever - it has honey and vanilla in it. Kopps frozen custard- it's like ice cream but more rich and super silky (it has a higher butterfat percentage). Also get deep fried cheese curds while you're in WI.

Chicago - Frontera Grill/Topolobampo. Love Rick Bayless and his food is killer. Also at least 1 hot dog with everything, lou malnati's deep dish sausage (in patty form) and mushroom pizza, a pizza puff and an italian beef sandwich.

DC - half smoke at Ben's chili bowl. I like Jose Andres restaurants - cafe atlantico/Jaleo. Ethiopian down by U street. Also excellent vietnamese - I like nam viet in particular (by cleveland park in DC or in arlington VA)

1. Frozen custard at Kopps in Milwaukee.

2. Get a sandwich at the Mars Cheese Castle near the Illinois border-- it's the same exit as the Bong Recreation Area. Pick up some cheese and sopressata.

3. Italian beef at Portillos on Dempster in Niles, if you're taking 294 around the city, or on Skokie Boulevard in Skokie if you're driving through the city. Order it with hot peppers and dipped; worry about the mess later.

4. Eat sopressata and cheese sandwiches the rest of the drive.
